No one thought Jacksonville would take Bortles that high either. If they want Mariota they will have to trade with us provided that TB does not take him.
1.) We need QB and are likely to take him ourselves.
2.) There is no guarantee that the other teams are willing to trade down to Philly's spot. Even though Jacksonville put out they are looking to trade down, talk this time of year is mostly gamesmanship and looking to throw people off. If someone is on the board they really like then they are not going to trade. Even then they may not want to drop to 20. Then he falls to the Jets at 6 and they lose out on him.

Most people say that Mariota is not a Whizenhunt QB. That actually is not totally correct. Yes he runs and likes to run but that was part of the scheme they ran. Difference between him and Locker is Mariota is accurate while Locker was wildly inaccurate, even going back to his days at Washington. Locker was a turnover machine and did not go through his progressions. He did not recognize coverages and would throw some of the dumbest INTs you could think imaginable. Mariota is smart with the ball and did not throw many INTs while at Oregon (yes I know scheme had some to do with open throws but he still made the throws when necessary). Yes I know he fumbled a lot but that can be taught to be more careful in the pocket, especially if he is not running as much. Also Locker did not keep his eyes up downfield a lot when he ran and just looked to run. Mariota keeps his eyes downfield and still looks to pass first before taking off.

Also it is said Whiz likes big strong QBs and also immobile QBs. He does like big strong QBs but not necessarily statues like Mett. It was what he had in AZ but Big Ben is not immobile and neither was Rivers. Mariota is big at 6-4 and has a strong arm as well. He is intelligent and will have no problem picking up Whiz playbook, which is run vertical with a 5 or 7 step drop.

I believe short of Philly breaking the bank with picks and players we probably will draft Mariota. Whiz has a 5 year guaranteed contract so he can maybe take another bad season or show minimal progress from last year but I don't think Webster is in that same boat. He has to do something this year or he is gone. The quickest way to turn around a bad franchise is with QB and I feel Webster does not want to stake his job on a 6th rd QB considering he can get a top talent tier QB at 2. Yeah we can trade down and accumulate multiple picks and fill our roster with rookies on D but it usually takes a couple of seasons before rookie pass rushers really make a difference on most teams D outside of a few players. Why make the next GMs job easier if he doesn't have to.

I think Leonard Williams will be the pick at 2.
QB can be had in round 2 or a vet in FA

Nah. Mariota is not accurate. Don't be mislead. The dude isn't accurate for the same reason locker isn't, consistency.

And there's no point in going qb in round two... There will be no qb worth a second round selection. Once the first two come off it's likely the next won't be picked til Tom Brady

I don't believe Mariota is worthy of the second overall pick, but you are right. The only way anyone can guarantee one of the top two QBs is to trade up into that number one or two spot.

Yeah, I don't see the point in drafting a quarterback if you pass on Mariota/Winston. Mettenberger is a better prospect than any of the other guys. Why waste a pick when we have so many other needs?

I'd rather sign a vet than a rookie but is Mett a better prospect than Petty..Hundley or Mannion?

With the Browns signing whats his name, that takes them out of Mariota Sweepstakes. So, that leaves us with the Jets, Rams, and Eagles for a trade. Eagles are a long shot, itll take too much to get it. I like the Rams spot. We could get their 1st, 2nd, 4th and a 1st next year.

I agree, but it does. Not after signing him to a 3 year deal do they trade away a lot of picks to go get him. Him and Johnny will play it out.

I don't understand how signing McCown changes the Browns thinking at all....Did people really think they were possibly going to go into the season with Manziel and Mariota/Winston as their only QBs. The Browns were going to sign a veteran no matter what. They need that veteran to mentor/groom whoever the future franchise QB is going to be.

This year the Browns have the extra draft pick to make a move if they want. Their QB coach tutored Mariota. Their #1 pick from last year is in rehab and looked awful last year.

I don't see how you can take them out of trade rumors.

Again all we need to trade out is to have 1 team really really want a QB and another team heavily rumored to want one.
