You can't build a team around bargain free agent guys. Obviously they need to do a better job of keeping their drafted players, but they really need to draft better. Nothing wrong with spending money on some legitimate players when you have money.

I just hope if we go for FAs we don't pay a bunch of guys 30+ yrs old. I like guys like McCourty, Williams, and Worilds because they are still pretty young.

Don't be surprised if they draft Mariota. I know that many are discounting it, but it's early, and when it gets closer...The pressure will be on

    That's actually what I suggested.

Look at the Packers and Steelers. All they do is draft well and re-sign their home-grown talent whenever possible. They rarely touch free agents.

I'm not suggesting anything radical for the Titans. They need to focus on doing the fundamentals of player evaluation correctly. Band-aid fixes in free agency and "making a big splash" very rarely works out.

Oh I agree 100% with drafting well and building properly. That said, neither of those teams you have mentioned were as terrible as we are...They have SERIOUS needs and drafting will take literally YEARS to fix. Why not do both?

That's still TBD. I for one think Mettenberger can be as good as Flacco. People forget that Mettenberger was a 2nd round talent before his injury & failed drug test at the combine. He's not your typical 6th round pick. Dude has talent, he was impressive considering how awful our offensive line, defense, and run game was. We literally had nothing to support him.

    That's obviously best case scenario.

That's 2 out of 32 teams that are able to do that. They also have legit QBs, easy to build teams around a franchise QB.

I agree though, making a big splash does rarely work. But, there's still a chance... with the right free agents, we could have this franchise in playoffs next year.

Sure, there's a chance. I think we just disagree on how big the chance is. And we also disagree on whether the Titans might actually be setting themselves back even further if they take big swings on free agents and miss again.

How does striking out in FA set us back? In case you missed it we're about as bad off as we've ever been

I don't really think we disagree on how big the chance is. I know i'm in "la-la land" talking about Suh, McCourty, etc all coming to the Titans. Truth is, we'll be lucky to land 1 top-10 free agent. I know this, but I prefer to dream right now.. but i'm certainly not getting my hopes up.

If McCourty his free agency, I think we have the best chance of landing him. Same with Worilds and maybe Dan Williams. Landing those 3 (though we would likely overpay) would be nice considering they're 27, 26, and 27. They all have another 3-5 years of being productive and we have serious holes at S, OLB, and NT. All have ties with the organization - McCourty (brother), Worilds (LeBeau), and Williams (Whiz/Horton).

That still would be a VERY successful free agency period and I don't see it setting us back.
