I could see that if they cut Levitre and signed a good OG to replace him and a good RT. With no improvement to this line, we can't run and the immobile Mett will be pressured on every snap. This is NOT how you develop a QB!!! Mett will get knocked out again if they keep this line and add a mediocre RT.

Based on what? LW as a 3-4 DE (and a 2 gapper at that) OUTPERFORMED Fowler in games and play while Fowler was moved all over the field to give him the best matchup!!!

Just say NO to Gregory. Better pass rusher? Based on what???? Beasely is the best pass rusher in the draft at OLB and has the tape to prove it. LW, even with 2 sacks taken off in the Bowl game has as many or more sacks as Gregory and LW is a 2 gap 3-4 DE who is late off the ball.

Gregory looks more like Dion Jordan than Jason Taylor to me. Great upside but huge bust risk too!

I am think Browns are the team to make the big move up for Mariota.

The MOST important part of MM's Pro Day is the Titans workout of him privately.

Personally, it wasn't the best pro day Ive seen and not the worst. As Mayock said, probably about solid. From the coverage we can't see every throw. But from the throws we could see, here's what I saw.

I counted 9 throws that needed improving. Virtually all of his incompletions (minus the ball his wr dropped in the endzone) were on GO routes down the field. I didn't count 2 GO routes he slightly overthrew by inches. So the fact that all of his incompletions were on GO routes doesn't bother me too much. Not a throw they made much in his offense. Some of the other throws in those 9 were completed but were thrown late or were thrown behind the WR. One was a short quick out in which he messed up his footwork so he threw it late so it arrived slightly behind the WR. One one flare pattern to a RB he short armed the ball and the guy dropped it off his shoestrings. That was the bad.

The good was that he threw nothing out of the shotgun (his strength) and didn't do any full role out throws (also a strength). He drops were smooth and pretty good for a guy just learning them. While the GO routes were his biggest problem, he was surprisingly accurate on all the in breaking routes from 5-10 yard ins/crossing routes to posts and skinny posts and seam routes. He was also really good at dropping corner routes into his WR's and impressive on 10 and 15yd outs showing good arm strength and accuracy.

This workout wasn't designed to show all he can do as it ignores the things he is best at....shotgun, playaction, read option, throwing on the run, and flat out running the ball. It was designed to show where he is at in terms of just being a pocket passer. If GO routes are heavily featured in your offense, Mariota isn't probably the QB for you. But he can make a lot of throws from the pocket on time and with accuracy....and has the mobility to extend plays, run when needed or scramble for a first down. Of course, as they said in the studio, this is like batting practice. The good stuff was good but doesn't mean much with no coverage and no pressure and nothing to read. And Matt Ryan had a similarly unimpressive Pro Day and he's turned out pretty good.

I did keep thinking that O'Connell was the one who's been training him and is now the Browns QB coach and ran the throwing drills....so I'm guessing they would be very interested in MM.

MM is a very polarizing player in this draft. Heard one guy in NY media saying the Jets HAVE to trade up to #2 to get MM now that they have built up their D. Then another guy said he wouldn't even take MM at #6 if he fell to that spot! LOL

While I don't think anyone thinks MM is best suited for KW's offense and his lack of desire to adjust his offense to his player's strengths, there is the real possibility we take MM, fail with Mett or MM in year one since we have a worse OL than we did last year so far, and we have a whole new regime at GM and HC...then maybe we drive a few back trucks full of cash to Urban Meyers house and give him the keys to the castle with a QB he can win with!

PK report on Whiz's meeting and private workout with Mariota.

Didn't realize that Jason Michael and John McNulty were there too.

NFL Ken Whisenhunt: Marcus Mariota was sharp in classroom, private workout - ESPN

Sounds good. With the defensive additions today this pick could be closer to happening. If not, take a trade and load up.

Not surprising....you really did not expect Whis (holder of the #2 pick in the draft and guaranteed to get Mariota if he wants him, regardless of how he performed) to trash talk or put anything other than a happy face on this event, did you?

    Good reviews:
" By my count there were 8 incompletions total. Mariota was much better than that # indicates tho. Workout comparable to Andrew Luck's Pro Day - CBS Sports Rob Lang"

" Amazing, one of the most accurate and efficient quarterbacks in college history is looking pretty accurate and efficient at his pro day - Bryan Fischer NFL.com"

" After Pro Day workout Mariota had private meetings with @TennesseeTitans he looked sharp in person...those not in attendance are critical - Fox Sports Joel Klatt"

    Bad reviews:

" Downfield accuracy and ball placement were problems with Mariota. He hasn't shown in workout that he's improved in that area - Former NFL scout Greg Gabrield "

    Theories for the mixed reviews:

“There was also a potential disconnect between viewers from home and those in attendance. NFL talent evaluators generally believe they can't get a true feel for a quarterback simply by watching his tape. They need to see him throw the football live.”

" NFL talent evaluators generally believe they can't get a true feel for a quarterback simply by watching his tape. They need to see him throw the football live. – From the article below"

    Summary

At least his pro day wasn’t Teddy Bridgewater bad and Bridgewater proved his pro day was meaningless. At the same time Manziel had an awesome pro day. So I am still withholding judgement on Mariota until I have more info.

The only reason there is any doubt at all about Mariota is because of the recent failures of RG3 and Manziel. Before them there was no serious concern about whether a spread offense QB could transition to the pro style. All it will take is for one spread offense QB to break that barrier and all these ridiculous concerns about spread offense QBs (See below) will be a thing of the past. Mariota is just the man to break that barrier because he has the size and arm strength (unlike RG3) and the character (unlike Manziel). The reason RG3 and Manziel didn't make it (so far) has nothing to do with coming from spread offenses.

    Ridiculous Concerns about Spread QBs:
    1. They don't know how to call plays in the huddle.
    2. They don't know how to take a snap under center.
    3. They don't know how to perform a 7 step drop.
    4. It will take too long for them to transition from a spread offense.

IMO someday we will laugh at these. I already am.
