You are right...the GM is responsible for choosing both, but it is the coaches job to coach up the players that they have.

I'm not a Webster fan, but just feel that it is ridiculous to act like it is his fault when FAs don't chose to come to the Titans.

Harrison is essentially going to be a player-coach for this team. He has experience with the 3-4, Horton and Lebeau. He has a mean streak on the field but is also a good locker room guy. With Morgan and Orakpo locked up long term, it's not like we necessarily need to spend a high pick at the same position. A mid round pick and Harrison should fill in nicely. All rebuilding teams need a few vets to help out the young guys, this goes for every sport.

You can tell who has influence on what moves..

(Defense) Dick Lebeau - Great moves, starting to really build a good defense and addressing needs..

(Offense) Ken Whizenhunt - Signing old, slow players.. Our marquee FA signings on offense the last two offseasons have been Dexter McCluster and Harry Douglas. Currently the worst offense in the NFL.

just wanted to add to your post.... considering how bad our offense and TOP with the football is that will wear down the defense and all of the excellent moves that Lebeau is making. Just my thoughts and hope we improve our offense greatly

I think we push hard in the draft for offense. I'm liking how the defense is looking. The draft will be to bolster the offense. I'm still hoping for LW then RT, WR, HB, and maybe a G later on. With an offense heavy draft I wouldn't be totally pessimistic about next season like I was a week ago.

I agree with you and then I look at our QB position and become instantly pessimistic about next year. I really wish I could explain it but I can't at this time. I think mett can be decent but not take us to the next level of where this team needs to go.

For what is worth, this years FA group did not include a lot of "marquee" offensive playmakers. The best ones (Bryant, Cobb, and D. Thomas) never reached free agent market. Basically you had Murray, J Thomas, and Maclin. J. Thomas isn't smart move since we already are paying good money to Walker. Murray was never really an option. Priced himself out of our range. The only WR worth throwing decent money at was Maclin, who cannot stay healthy and is coming off his only 1,000 yard season of his career. At the price he signed for, the Chiefs can have him. This draft is loaded with offensive playmakers.

I agree with you, but I don't see many other options. I'm not high on Mariota at all, and our only other option is to trade for Bradford (hell no). We sink or swim with Mett, and he's done enough for me to be cautiously optimistic. We will see if he's the right guy.

Because you are WRONG! The ONLY reason Revis AND Cormartie are going back to the Jets is because....wait for it.....they offered them the most money!!!!!!!

Revis wanted to go back to NE but NE wanted to pay him 10-12mil/yr and he wanted $16mil/yr! Obviously Revis has a history with the Jets but he wanted to go back to the Jets last year...ya know why? To keep getting $16mil a year AND to play for Rex. Jets didn't offer him that so he took a paycut ($12mil) to go to NE for a year. If NE kept him on the roster to pay him the $20 they owed him for 2015, his avg salary for the contract would have been $16mil/yr and then he would have signed a long term deal with them. Once NE essentially cut him and offered him less money...is it a shocker he went to the highest bidder? Cromartie did too. In fact, the NY media was up in arms at Revis' conference call to the media saying he always wanted to come back here blah blah blah. They spent 2 days hammering Revis for lying to them and acting like they were stupid because they knew why he was back. It's called $70million dollars! If we offered him $80mil, he'd be a Titan right now but Webster doesn't go for the top talent at a position.

So you think we don't want a #1 WR because we don't have a franchise QB, it would cost a terribly high 5th rnd pick, we'd be paying $7.7mil when he's worth at least $10-12mil/yr. All those injuries? He's missed 3 games in 4 seasons!!! And while he was a complete headcase in Miami, he's gotten himself together. The Jets are THRILLED to have him. And if we could have gotten him for a 5th rnd pick, what is the risk? You get a #1 WR for a couple of years and if he causes problems or doesn't play up to his contract, we can cut him and have no dead cap space and lose what...a 5th rnd pick? What's the downside? We invested a 2nd and 3rd rnd pick in Hunter and what have we gotten for that?

Webster obviously made OLBer a top priority and he landed 2 of the better ones on the market.

I want to know who you would have liked Webster to sign at OLBer???[/QUOTE]

You miss the point. Outside of Houston, there is no great OLB in FA. Yes, he should have kept Morgan and signed James Harrison at least. After that, you sign guys with avg production hoping to get more or an injured guy hoping he returns to form and doesn't get injured. I prefer Orakpo of the alternatives as long as he structured the contract to protect us against another catastrophic injury to Orakpo. Also the reason to sign Harrison....which they hadn't even called and Harrison produced more per snap than all these other guys!!!

So the point is, he should have gone after some more upgrades, not fixing holes with solid players. We could have gotten a #1 WR for a 5th rnd pick. We could have gotten a better NT who's young and just in his prime. We could have gotten an improvement at OG and gotten rid of Levitre. Heck, we could have gotten Lesean McCoy...how'd he look as our starting RB? We could have gotten a better CB than Cox. Half our free agency is resigning guys who should have already been re-signed BEFORE free agency started!
