If this was a nobody- the difference of opinion would be vast. Calm your tits fellas.

The NFL pays too well, as they say "next man up" and there will always be loads willing to sacrifice for that check.

I get what you're saying and most athletes don't think that far ahead, but it shouldn't come as a shock.

It depends on the nature and frequency of the concussions. Even when you're not getting concussions, in a game like football your head is going to experience some form of repeated trauma.

Getting your "bell rung" has an immense impact on CTE. It's not just concussions that are a problem.

The info has been out for a long time... it's just that there have now been even further in depth studies that show the overwhelming majority of players experience brain trauma. Some more severe than others.

Like Scarecrow said though... This is going to be an issue moving forward.

I respect Borland for his decision. In fact, it took major balls to do what he did, but I feel like these athletes should've had a pretty good idea that this was an issue before they decided to do this as a career.

There's virtually nothing that can be done to prevent head trauma in the NFL. It's inevitable. But the concussion protocol helps, and it should be taken seriously. Although if a player wants to sneak by the rules and get back on the field, that's their decision as well, and I'm all for it. I just hope those who choose to tough it out don't come back years later and file lawsuits.

Wes Welker needs to retire. Dude is gonna be a vegetable soon if he's not careful... and I am sure he will experience some serious sh*t years down the road.

As much as I wouldn't be crushed by that.. I don't think so. Even if 50 players per year wise up and retire early, there will still be hundreds or maybe thousands of people who would sell their soul to make the big bucks in the NFL.

People are crazy enough to literally sign up for head trauma for very little or no money in MMA and Boxing. I'd assume people would love to take less risk and be a millionaire in the NFL. Plus, a lot of players are doing it for free at the NCAA level.

I mean, there are minimum 6,500 players in the D1 FBS level, this year. Not mentioning all of the D2, D3, NAIA, smaller levels, semi-pro jokers, arena leagues. I'd suppose they'll have a neverending well to draw from.

Not many of these players would turn down that money. The skill level may go down, but I think there will always be "invincible" 21 year old athletes who are hungry for a few million bucks, whatever the cost...

Especially, seeing the intelligence of a lot of NFL players.football is their only shot at making good money..without it, they'd be underqualified to flip burgers at Steak 'n Shake.

This has been a super crazy off season, as far as retirements go.

Nobody can or even should question why they left the game.

I wish all them good luck in whatever they do.

The problem is that the NFL tried to bury this story, permute the data and engaged in efforts to misdirect the focus. I'll support the younger players exploring other career options, especially those that are intelligent with good work ethics like this young man has. And its important for them to do so at a young age when foundations for careers are built.

The problem is more than just Goodell's slimy, wormy, lying azz. It goes straight to the greedy chitbag owners. I didn't have a problem with them years ago, but all of the arbitrary policies they employ run parallel with other insidious efforts intended only to bolster profits. The recent news of doper, groper owners that aren't subject to the "conduct policy" and "buried data" I believe exposes the "upper level" of the league for what it really is- a group interested only in profit.

I was playing AAU basketball in the late 90's. I dove to the floor and took a knee to the head. I couldn't see straight. After a few minutes, coaches and doctors told me I was good. I went out, still kick of disoriented, got screened hard and bounced my head off the ground. I was messed up for a solid month. Team doctors and even my own doctor called me a *****. ...and that was a stupid AAU team.

People knew about this stuff, but it wasn't accepted as general knowledge. Doctors basically didn't want you to go to sleep and die immediately afterwards. Once you clear that, whatever...

Borland was 1 of the 2 guys SF got in the Justin Hunter trade with us in 2013, and was making the trade look bad for us... Glad we weren't the ones to get burned for a change...

Im not an actual doctor, but I am pretty sure that recurring head trauma and molly are a combination that is to be avoided. Not a doctor though.

Seriously though, I admire these guys for leaving so early. Just shows that life can trump money with some folks.
