Still....Better than mettenberg, and both of them have what it takes to be serviceable staring qbs (unlike mett)...they just need a lot of polishing (both of them).

I dont think thats the case. Winston is a once in every few years kind of guy, that makes him stand out. After that Mettenberger IMO is better today and maybe next few years that Mariota. Only real thing I like about Mariota is I believe he can be molded into almost anything.

Leonard Williams is a sure thing, Jameis Winston is a small gamble, but the reward far outweighs the risk.

I'd rather aim higher than "serviceable and in need of a lot of polishing" :)

Get on the phone Whiz and trade for Rivers and have Mett learn from him

I do see some similarities between this draft, and the year we took VY.

IIRC, Most people assumed that the Texans would draft VY. He was the the top QB prospect for most, and the hometown hero after having just won a NC. AND the hometown team (texans) just happen to have the 1st overall pick AND a need at QB.

You also had what was considered a stud DL near the top of the draft. Possibly the highest rated player in the draft in Mario Williams.

I don't think anyone really thought that the Texans would take Mario Williams 1st overall leading up to the draft. VY just made too much sense for them. I know a ton of Texan fans were pissed at the time, and VY even recently admitted that he thought he was going to stay in Texas.

Now, flash forward to the 2015 draft. Bucs have the top pick, a need at QB, and the hometown hero sitting there likely to be the 1st QB taken. And by all accounts, Jameis is a lock for the #1 overall pick.

Maybe the Bucs pull a Texan's move, and take the DL over the QB ... letting the QB drop to the Titans.

If so, hopefully it works out better than VY did

We're just doing our due diligence. Winston isn't a lock at #1, anything is possible in the draft... he could very well fall to #2. It's unlikely, but possible.

Don't let @JCBRAVE convince you that we're trading up to #1.

Best QB prospect in the last 10 years not named Andrew Luck is a joke and a half. Winston is good... but that's so off.

Also, I have no problem with him going to strip clubs, smoking the herb, liking weiners, but beating up his GF is way too far. Especially when he ends up in jail. Who am I kidding, he's an athelete, that wouldn't happen.

All I care about is on the field. ESPN and the rest of the media has hyped up his off the field problems so much it's blinded everyone into thinking it's a big deal. Nothing about any of that kept him off the field or effected his play. How does his going to strip clubs or smoking weed (which I haven't seen documented at all FWIW) matter if he plays well on the field? Even if he got a 4 game suspension for smoking weed one time, wouldn't you rather have a franchise QB and have him miss a few games? I don't think there's a Steelers fan out there that would drop Roethlisberger because of his 4 game suspension a few years ago for the rape allegations. We aren't drafting our next preist or pastor, it's not like they have to be upstanding citizens and great men off the field. A lot of time the best football players are the ones that are rough around the edges and have a mean streak.

That quote about him being the best QB prospect in the last 10 years not named Luck has been thrown around by several talent evaluators. I just looked at the list and the only two that come close would be Stafford, Wilson, or Newton. Here's the list. I don't think I'd take any of those guys since '06 over Winston.

I think you need to read my post again, never said I cared about Winstons "off the field issues". In fact, I even said I could care less if he's at strip clubs, smoking weed, or gay. I simply said you can't beat women, which you seem to think is okay... as long as he's a good football player.

Wait...isn't this the same group of fans who wanted nothing to do with vontaze Burfict even as a late round draft pick?

Lol. I guess a 2 win season will make you realize that you really don't care if those guys are good Samaritan citizens as long as they can ball. They are however getting paid to play ball.

    Bout time.

Still....I have to intercect on this one. When it comes to your qb, off the field does matter. Your qb has to be able to earn respect. Winston goes in there thinking he's the ****, I have a bad feeling about his career. Just don't see it as very promising. I mean he just doesn't have leadership qualities. He has the exact opposite. I mean would you give your heart, sweat and tears for that guy? Cmon
