If the Rose Bowl is an example of his accuracy, then he's not accurate because he missed open receivers on multiple occasions. I realize every QB misses and Florida State is a talented defense but some of his misses were shockingly bad though his final stats were solid.

Here is a scenario that I wonder why no one has considered....IF, and I do mean IF Webster and Whisenhunt decide they REALLY like Mariota (Whiz has already said publicly MM answered a lot of questions he had, during his private workout, in Eugene), then why not get on the phone with Reggie McKenzie (GM at Oakland) and say...
"Reggie, we're really torn between Mariota and Williams....one minute we're leaning to Mariota, and the next to Williams...would you be interested in trading up for Williams? That would make our decision a little bit easier, and you would have the best player in the draft."

Ask for a 2nd Rd pick and call it a day. At No.4, we would still be able to get Mariota AND a 2nd Rd pick.

Missing two in a half against one of the best defenses is not bad, as you imply. Watch the NC game and he is on target on all but 2 and one of those was due to the TE being shoved and it disrupted his route. I never said he was Superman, and that he could never miss a pass or two. 70% completion rate is pretty darn good. If only Mettenberger could have gotten the ball out of his hands quickly and only missed 2 passes in one half. We would have made the playoffs! :)

I can watch any game Peyton or Brady plays and see them mis on a few passes in any given half. I will say one other thing that I observed, when he and Oregon played the Vols in 2013. Our defense did a decent job stalling their offense for the first Qtr. But it was like a damn broke after that. So, in some games, he may start off a bit slow, but you can see him get hot after a few drives.

I watched that game earlier today, he misses twice that are noticeably on him, and also makes some bad throws that his receivers had to adjust to, they also dropped some, so at the end of the day it all cancels each other out. Still not a game to use against him.

Yeah, every QB sh!ts the bed from time to time. I'm not worried about one game.

And people talk about him being a running QB, those runs were for the most part by design. They were called run plays. When he goes to pass, very few times does he actually take off and run. His eyes are looking downfield. We do however need a go to WR. Our Wr's last year hD hard time getting open.

he does spend a lot of time going laterally looking for something to open up downfield, which in TN right now is a must have skill

Understand the criticism. I evaluated him in a manner similar to how I evaluated Locker back in 2010. I did not watch multiple games with him, but I did watch him against the high caliber competition (FSU and OSU...both of whom are arguably better than the 2013 Vols...no offense LOL), much like I watched Locker play his bowl game. While I was more impressed with Mariota than with Locker in 2010, there were still issues with him in both games that gave me pause. Against FSU he statistically had a good game, but there were a few instances during the first half (before the game got out of hand) were he was forcing balls, making bad decisions, etc....things you get away with in college but not in the pros. OSU was just not pretty all of the way around, so I will not dwell on that.

Bottom line is that I got the same feeling about him as I did with Locker back in 2010, which is where my reluctance stems from.

As with Locker, if we pick him I will root for and support him, but until then I am going with my opinion.

Because then the Jets/Redskins/Eagles trade with Jaguars and we're screwed out the player we really like?

If we really like the player, just draft him. Dallas fans were upset when they picked Frederick but it turns out hes a stud center. Trying to get cute just to lose out on a player you're really high on is dumb.

    Not saying I like Mariota.
