You don't hear about good players on bad teams, that's why McCoy's name isn't as out there as other top players

Perhaps, but if he is indeed a stellar DT, then it help prove my point about the fact that taking an elite DL doesn't help a team get out of the doldrums like find your franchise QB will. Tamp Bay is an excellent example to use. They tried to go the budget rental route/value route at QB a few seasons ago, by taking Mike Glennon a few seasons ago. Mike Glennon and Mettenberger are two peas from the same pod.
It got their HC fired. They tried to get by with Glennon and what they thought was a good value in a flash in the pan, career backup. Got them a ticket to the the very bottom of the league. That's exactly where we'll be if we pass on Mariota and try to rely on Mettenberger, instead.

Let's look at Jacksonville. They tried to go the budget rental method of selecting a QB and it got them years and years of mediocrity. Now that they finally drafted a good one in the first rd, I can see them start to improve dramatically, soon.

Teams that d!ck around at QB, waller in the mud of the NFL, perpetually...until they make a change. Look at Oakland, they finally drafted a marquee QB and they'll get out of the cellar before we will. In fact, they won more games than we did, simply because they wised up. They'll be a much improved team, this season, too.

Anyone wanting us to pass on Mariota and hand the keys of the season to Mettenberger, you're asking to get kicked in the nutz every game this year and to see this season doomed before it ever begins.

I still want a trade but at the following value for the landing spot:

3-5: Even points on the "standard" pick value chart
6-10: 10% above points or higher on the "standard" pick value chart
11-15 : 20% above points or higher on the "standard" pick value chart
16-20: 30% above points or higher on the "standard" pick value chart
    >20: don't trade.

I'd take a player as part of a trade offer if that player is a position of need and that player is less than 28yo, has a good performance record in at least 8 games started, and does not have a significant injury history. I'd value that player as part of the trade by reducing each % listed above by 5-10%, dependant upon assessed quality.

If no trade offer that meets above, pick Leonard Williams.

Youre on to something here, but using Oakland and Carr as examples isn't going to help your argument, he's crap and they picked him in the 2nd round, hardily marquee if you ask me.

Just because you don't remember or haven't paid attention doesn't mean he isn't talked about.

McCoy is absolutely better than Suh. You hear Suh's name brought up a lot because he brings attention to himself, with the suspensions and his dirty play. But McCoy is better vs the run and is a beast in pass rush.

Carr is not crap. He really started to show late in the year that he was going to be a legit franchise QB. He needs more weapons, and that is why most expect them to draft Amari Cooper or Kevin White at No.4

Most NFL analysts consider Carr to be the Raiders answer at QB

I'm hoping that the Raiders finally come out of their tailspin because their GM's son, Khalil McKenzie signed with the Tennessee Vols, and was the consensus No.1 DT coming out of High School. His dad played for UT and his Uncle, too. Would hate to see his dad lose his job, given the mess he was handed...having to flip that whole roster, and clean up the salary cap mess they were in when he arrived

I prefer the Raiders to be garbage. Less teams in our way.

Also that 2002 AFC championship game. Ive always hated the Raiders after that. Gannon is a lame.

The problem with your argument is that all three teams you listed did not "d!ck" around at QB by your standards in the not too distant past. Tampa Bay drafted Josh Freeman in the 1st round in 2009. Byron Leftwich was the 7th overall pick back in 2003, and they also drafted Blaine Gabbert pretty early in 2011. Oakland is the home of the infamous Jamarcus Russell pick that went south.

Pretty well all of these picks were reaches (much as I view Mariota this year). However, you are correct in that all those teams have experienced extended periods of poor performance.....coincidence?

Just because you may miss on one years ago, it doesn't mean you stop freakin trying!!! Hello?! It's stopping looking around for work, when you have a family to feed. Just because one doesn't work out, how can it get any better settling for other teams' scraps (washed up veterans) or scrubs in the 6th round...like Rusty Smith and Mettenberger?

OK, but that was not your point when you were discussing these teams in your earlier post. You were holding these teams up as examples of teams who were NOT doing that, and were suffering as a result. Actually, it looks more like they are suffering at least partly due to these reaches.

As I have stated multiple times now, I have no problem drafting a QB high if I feel it is a reasonable risk. I just have concerns with Mariota that push him to "reach" status at #2.
