At DTM586:I do hope we pick Williams instead of Mariota. Williams and Casey are gonna be great together.

I was looking at last years mocks and quite a few had mettenberger going at 33 to Houston...his injury and diluted sample surely turned a lot of heads.

Everyone forgets we did trade up for him, although not giving up a lot it does show a belief in him

I don't usually put any stock in what other fans may say about a player, but this guy has a pretty good take on Mettenberger and his views reflect mine...and that while Mettenberger possesses some redeeming qualities as a QB, he possesses some negative qualities that, IMHO, make him nothing more than a decent backup in this league.

My summation about Mettenberger is...I hope he does develop enough to be able to win games if needed, as a backup, but he's not a franchise caliber NFL QB. Mariota, on the other hand DOES have all the requisite traits a GM or HC would look for...except for the style of offense he played in.

I'll say it again, though...the NFL MUST adjust to these kinds of QB's coming out, because the number of NFL caliber pure pocket passers, coming out of college are becoming more and more rare by the year. The college game is trending hard toward the spread offenses. Thus, the Ken Whisenhunts are going to have to adjust to these types of QB's, as long as they have the physical and mental tools to do so. Mariota does, and we don't have to worry about him being a Vince Young...because maturity is what plagued VY...not talent or ability.

Locker's issue was staying healthy, genius. And VY's was maturity. Both had franchise level ability, and exhibited it on the field.

I say McNair because, despite all the questions about him, Mariota showed the requisite traits to be a franchise QB, and both were a big threat to run the ball as well as throwing it.

Therefore my helmet security is strong, young grasshopper.

Tyler Bray came out as a Junior...one year ahead of Mettenberger, but would have come out the same time had he stayed his senior season. He had more prolific stats than Mettenberger did, had the biggest arm in the draft, and was also graded as a 2nd to 3rd rd draft pick.

His ONLY knock was perceived maturity questions. Mettenberger was beaten out of the starting job by Aaron Murray, then kicked off the team at Georgia, for violation of team rules. Then plead guilty to two counts of sexual battery. Failed the drug test at the NFL combine....knowing full well that they drug test there and it was the BIGGEST job interview of his life. If that doesn't alarm you yahoo's, who happen to be card-carrying members of the VY hater club, it should. VY never had those kinds of red flags coming into the clubhouse.

If you want the team to place it's fortunes on Mettenberger, then you're asking them to have their nutz kicked in, as a franchise. If immaturity cost us with VY, then Mettenberger is the Poster Child of Immaturity. He came to training camp literally looking like a clown.

Whisenhunt had to get in his grille, in order to try and straighten him up.

Tyler Bray went undrafted. KC picked him up as a Rookie FA, and he's their 3rd string backup...right where Mettenberger should be, in the pecking order.

If he were a first round pick and would have played like this in his rookie season would you still be so critical of him?

nobody had Mett going at 33, nobody had Mett going in the third. He was a projected 4-6 round guy. Lets not spew a bunch of bull**** out.

Mett was projected to go in the second round at one point. I remember this clearly and someone else in this same thread also does. Walter Football had him going to Houston. I spent a lot of time looking at these projections and that wasn't the only one that had him going that early. Sure you are correct i also saw some that had him going in the fourth, fifth and sixth. The only reason he fell to the sixth was the torn ACL,diluted sample and grabbing some girls butt and she pressed charges.

Mett was the leading passer of all NFL QB's in the 2014 preseason completing 47 of 68 passes good for 69 percent of passes completed for 659 yards. Not bad for a rookie...

In Mett's first full game of action against Houston he set a franchise record for a rookie QB in his debut as he went 27 of 41 completing 66 percent of his passes for 300 yards with two touchdowns, one interception and a 93.4 QB rating.

On the road against Baltimore in his second game he looked sharp in the first half leading the first few drives down the field he completed 16 of 27 passes with one touchdown and one interception.

In his third game against Pittsburgh he set a rookie record on MNF completing 15 of 24 passes for 263 yards including an 80 yard bomb for a TD ending the game with two touchdowns and one interception and a 110 QB rating. After the game even the Steelers defense complimented Mett on a great game.

Against Philly he threw for 345 yards including eight passes over twenty yards with two touchdowns and one interception and an 88 QB rating.

In his fifth game at Houston he completed 13 of 19 passes completing 68 percent of his passes for 184 yards for one touchdown and one interception and a 95 QB rating.

Out of all six games he played only the last one against New York was bad mainly because of the poor offensive line in it he completed 14 out of 24 passes for 125 yards and an interception.

Like i said this is pretty good for a rookie QB with a crappy line,no running game and terrible defense.
