When posters are saying that Mett sucked and Mett didn't prove anything that is not entirely correct. I don't see many rookie QB's come in and lead the NFL in passing their first preseason.

Also Mett set a franchise record his very first game against Houston he went 27 of 41 completing 66 percent of his passes for 300 yards with two touchdowns and a 93.4 QB rating. IMO thats a pretty good start for a rookie.

A couple games later against Pittsburgh on national television the Pittsburgh defense complimented Mett after he set a rookie record on MNF completing 15 of 24 passes for 263 yards including an 80 yard bomb for a TD ending the game with two touchdowns and a 110 QB rating. A great game period that was lost when the run defense gave up two hundred yards mostly to Bell.

Against Philly he threw for 345 yards including eight passes over twenty yards with two touchdowns. Wasn't Mett's fault the defense gave up 43 points,do you see many QB's that can win those type of games????

In his fifth game at Houston he completed 13 of 19 passes completing 68 percent of his passes for 184 yards for one touchdown and a 95 QB rating.

Sure Mett had games where he didn't play well at times but for a rookie what i printed above is not bad for a rookie wouldn't you say???

It is hard for any QB to win when his team has the worst defense in the NFL. The 0-6 record is not all on Mett. The Pittsburgh game and Philly games were both winnable and those losses are on the defense.

Not everyone likes Mett thats fine BUT you can't ignore the fact he did set records and played well at times for a rookie with no offensive line, run game or defense.

Now if you are gonna say Mett sucks don't conveniently ignore the facts. He did set a few records and play well enough to deserve a shot in 2015.

The Tyler Bray comparison bears no response LOL....

Comparing Mett's issue with grabbing a college girl's rear end while in college at age 20ish with VY's running away from the team offices (people thinking he was having some sort of breakdown) at age 25ish and throwing his shoulder pads into the stands in a hissy fit at age 27ish is just laughable. Not that any of these issues are good, but someone in college at age 20 is biologically at a different maturity level than someone around 27 should be.

If I saw any evidence of Mett having similar issues now I would have a much different attitude, but I have heard nothing about that.

I don't think Mariota has the arm that Kaepernick does, so I am not sure I agree with #1.

I would agree with the Winston comparison if it assumes the later career McNabb (after he had lost his legs), but I think Winston has more upside overall (if he can shake the off field stuff....which I make no predictions on).

Mettenberger = Flacco?....like Nick said, maybe as an absolute ceiling, but he has quite a ways to go to get into that conversation IMO. Right now I like the comparison to Glennon better, but I would acknowledge that Mett has more upside.

I do think Mett's body of work in 2014 was enough to get a chance to prove himself as starter in 2015. Whats scary about picking Mariota is that he has quite a few weaknesses and is not quite ready to be thrown out there from day one. Also i don't think Mariota will fit well in the offense Whisenhunt runs. Mobility might be something Mariota will want to use but Whisenhunt got pissed at Locker for not staying in the pocket. I'd hate to start over with a new QB especially when the team could pick someone that makes the team better immediately with the second pick.

Projections and comparisons don't mean crap.

Finding a franchise qb is all I care about if I'm the GM. Right now I can't say that I have one 100% and so I have to find a way to use the 2nd pick in the draft to help me get one. Taking Williams at #2 does nothing to help me get a qb. Trade the pick or take Mariota. Those should be the only 2 options that we should be considering.

Williams gets us just as close to a franchise qb as drafting mariota

LOL....but I have gotten to the point that I agree with his point. We should focus the #2 pick on QB IMO. My extremely strong preference is that we figure out a way to trade the pick in order to pick up short term help at QB along with as many good picks as we can get to try to fill the many holes that this team has. We can get aggressive in a future draft if needed to grab a franchise QB when one is available.

As I have said before, what we want is not relevant here. IMO if we are unable to deal the pick Webster/Whis will feel compelled to draft Mariota for job security. It will be hard to whack them after this season (no matter how bad we are) if they can point the finger at a developing QB.

Guys....whiz is coming up on year 2 of a 5 year guaranteed contract. Mariota doesn't buy him anymore security than he already has

Williams does nothing toward getting us a franchise qb.

You have to draft a qb to find one.

The Texans screwed up royally with last yrs pick. With the 1st pick you have to take a qb or trade down to give yourself a chance to draft a qb. The Texans did neither and now what do they have at qb???

I really think Mett can be the guy, but I am not totally sold on him and thus have to keep trying to find one. Some will argue that giving Mett better weapons will help him be a franchise guy, but I think franchise qbs make the guys they have better.

@Titans2004 would you say the texans are a qb away?
