Rumor Draft Rumors Ramping Up

LW will be gone at #3 if we don't pick him. Whether that is by Jacksonville taking him or someone trades up to get him. I believe he is coveted more than MM by teams.

 

At 6 we'd still get Cooper, White, Beasley or Fowler. I'd be cool with that if the haul for #2 is worth it.

For the record (unrelated) Mariota is better than any QB prospect last year, that's for sure.

I used to believe this as well, and mostly still do but think about this for a minute; Whiz tried converting Locker to a pocket QB because 1.) he gets hurt a lot, and 2.) because Lockers run skills weren't the nicest. But in Mariota's case he's a very elusive player, runs as well as some RB's, when he scrambles he's a terror. So imagine him here in Whiz' system, its doubtful we call a ton of QB-option plays like Oregon did, but its perfectly within reason to think we'll protect him in the same way we tried with Locker by keeping him in the pocket, but that doesn't mean things wont break down and force Mariota to take off.

The MAJOR hangup I have with taking MM at 2 is; will Whiz go to more 3-step drop plays were we can get the ball out in 2-3 seconds... Last year we set ourselves up some by calling so many long developing plays. And even if we dont change to a quicker paced offense, still helps that MM has the wheels to escape when **** hits the fan like it did so many times last year.

Fact of the matter is Whiz isn't as good at what he does compared to MM, he should be open to accepting help in MM.

 

So you're saying that a coach is more likely to change his ways for a quarterback rather than a quarterback change his ways for a coach?

Serious question because I don't know who would change first a coach or a quarterback.

 

@nickmsmith summed up the way I feel about Mett exactly. Mett does some things well and deserves some credit for playing decently. That said, he has not done enough for anyone to give him the job. And he has not done enough for us to be ok with what he have at the QB spot. And I don't mean that we should be targeting Mariota necessarily.

We should by all means be trying to get better at QB. Be that blowing SD up inquiring about Rivers, trading up for Winston, or staying at #2 and taking Mariota. Not saying that those options are the best just that we need to be doing all we can to upgrade our QB situation. I admire Mett's confidence and the fact that he believes in himself and talks a big game. BUT I don't feel like he's backed up his mouth with his play. Sure he has had some great throws and had a solid showing in the MNF game but I'm not sold on him.

If he ends up being the guy I'll support him like I have all of our guys.

 

Not a hater..just think he looks like Ashton Kutcher..I'd like to see us trade down and get him some weapons and see what he can do..I also don't think he should be handed the job so draft a QB to compete with him.
