You can play the percentages. Your likelihood of drafting a great QB in round one is way, way less than 50%, if you look back the past few decades.

After round one, the chances are really slim. Like you are better off not even trying, bad. There are exceptions, but for every dalton, kaepernick, or Wilson, there are a million failures in the other rounds.

To find a good QB.. It's either:first round pick, free agent pickup, or get extremely lucky in other rounds.

1st round pick at QB is likely to fail, but other round QBs are almost always failures.

That's just a fallacious assumption. Whisenhunt, himself dispelled a lot of the same nonsense people like those on this board and many in the media keep saying. Such as he hasn't had to read defenses and go through pass progressions, or take snaps from under center, etc.

I would think ANY coach, including Whisenhunt, would prefer a QB WHO DOESN'T TURN THE BALL OVER, who is accurate and makes quick decisions. Mariota FITS all of those boxes. It's silly fans who keep assuming his best asset is his feet. He was the 3rd leading...wait for it.....wait for it....PASSER....in the nation, last year. Better than Winston. Better than Connor Cook. Had the HIGHEST PASS EFFICIENCY RATING IN THE NATION.

HE FUNKING EARNED THAT HEISMAN AS A PASSER!!! I get so tired of hearing all the same silly BS! It's utter nonsense.

It's the same silly sh!ite that comes up EVERY year in college recruiting...."Not all 5 star recruits work out"...."there are 3 star recruits who are in the NFL" blah.blah.blah. It's called PERCENTAGES, folks. PERCENTAGES!!! That's why teams like Alabama are always in the top 3-4 every year...because they recruit the highest number of 4-5 star recruits...year in and year out.

That's why 1st Rd draft choices are at a premium. Because the HIT ratio is FAR, FAR higher than picks in the later rounds panning out. Got it? Is that REALLY so damn hard to understand, folks? C'Mon....let's knock it off with the silly arguments about busts in the first round.

It's really, really simple. The percentages of finding a FRANCHISE QB in the early part of the 1st rd are astronomically higher than finding one in the A$$-END of the draft.

In all fairness, in those 2-3 games, Johnny looked worse than ANY QB I've ever seen.

Combine that with his sh*tty attitude and personality, and he's definitely a bust.

Even the Mett haters would tell you that Mett looked like Montana in comparison to Manziel.

It's called PERCENTAGES, genius. The players taken in the first round have a MUCH higher hit ratio, than those taken in the later rounds. It's not even close, yet idiots like yourself waste other people's time arguing stupid freaking points.

Personally I think whiz likes Mariota. If you listen to his interviews it shows. The big thing that everyone should realize is that most of Mariota's runs were designed runs, its not like he was a run first guy. He was always looking for the throw and with the speed of Oregons offense he had to be very smart with the ball. He owned that offense, he couldn't of realistically done much better. So that to me shows he's got even more in the tank.

What has dramatically changed things is the rookie cap. It no longer cripples a franchise from a cap standpoint to miss on a high 1st rnd pick. The odds of finding a franchise qb are better in the 1st than they are in other rnds. So you gotta keep drafting until you find one.

Sure you can build the defense and other areas and try to fill in an avg qb, but if you want yrs and yrs of playoff runs you are much better off finding a franchise qb.
