Rumor Draft Rumors Ramping Up

If Mett doesn't pan out then where exactly do you think we'll be drafting?

I guess that's the thing I don't understand about drafting Mariota. MM isn't a once in a lifetime QB, he isn't a sure thing and he isn't the type of QB Whiz tends to work well with (want to force him into being a pocket passer? Good luck with that).

I say roll with Mett and get LW to give us a foundation for a killer defense, if Mett doesn't work out then grab a QB next year, if he does great! I just don't see the immediate need to grab a project like Mariota.

 

Being a pocket QB doesn't mean he wont find himself running around, in TN thats a huge asset. Outside of running a million pointless QB-options in Oregon MM was mostly in the pocket, so IMO he could be molded into a Whiz approved QB. But I also believe its going to be a rocky adventure at first while his body gets the reps in to the create muscle memory NFL QB's must develop.

 

Not only that but Oregon's entire offense is based on the read option. Their passing game completely relied on zone read scheme, so that creates huge mismatches and holes in the secondary. So he will have to learn to throw to guys that aren't open, instead of going to the guy is wide open based on blown coverage or scheme trickery. This is not just taking a Project QB, this is about implementing an entirely new Offense. I don't see Whiz doing this, Whiz is inflexible....and sucks.

 

But we pick LW, and win a few more games . Will we Be in the position to get a franchise QB? Teams needing QB, don't trade down unless you mortgage the future to move up. Just saying.

 

The Cows had JJ Watt when they landed (and wasted) the #1 overall pick.

I think we'll be fine if Mett doesn't work out. LW would have to be the single greatest player of all time to make this 2-14 team a 6-10 - 8-8 team if Mett winds up not being the answer.

 

If Mett doesn't pan out I doubt Whisenhunt is here next year to worry about QB's fitting his style either.

 

So if Tampa shocks and goes Mariota, do we take Winston or trade him for #6?

If the Jets offered us 6, 2nd, and their 2016 1st... it would be hard to turn that down. Although I love Winston, there sure is a lot of off the field crap that worries me. Mentally, Winston reminds me of VY.
