I dont think Whis job is on the line.

However, lets say that both of their jobs are on the line. Which is a better bet? Building around someone who has already shown promise, or a complete unknown?

Building around an unknown may be what keeps them from rolling with anyone other than Mett.

I THINK WHIZ def thinks mett who knows the system will give him a better chance than mariota who will need a different system....and i also am in hte camp who doesnt really see whizs job on the line this year....earliest i see him fired is midway through next season if things stay bad.

I think going with Mariota would buy them another year. I think ownership(whoever it is) would be more forgiving of a guy who was selected #2 and the season not working out.

If Mett doesn't work out the people who were responsible for not finding someone better will get the axe. The whole "you thought a sixth round pick who was nothing special his rookie year was worth building around" thing would not fly.

I don't really like either option. I think both guys are going to amount to very little. And next year's class looks even worse right now.

Mariotta/Mett are better options than cliboard jesus/Mett. Hopefully we get the right trade and get extra picks but I think we almost have to take a qb if we pick at 2. Leonard Williams maybe a great ball player but watching USC play last year, he just did not seem to dominate.

Or to summarize, Climer is an ass.

Id prefer next season be do or die for RW. I don't want a rookie QB, who he picked, to save his job for another season.

Then we get a new GM. One that will hopefully be a lot better.

Next years class is one reason why we have to get it right this draft. We are in position to draft one of the top prospects. Even with a top pick, there's no one talking about how good next years class will be. In fact, its the opposite.

We went down that road with VY. Then we went down it with Locker. I would be much happier as a fan to let next season play out than to go down that road again.

With our luck, we will pass and Mariota will become the next Rodgers. Then Ill be doing "what ifs" while we watch the team that picks him enjoys years of playoff appearances.

I watched Mett a lot last year. Considering how much we sucked, there wasn't much else to review. He made some Locker type passes on short passes. I do not believe he is the statue that everyone makes him out to be. In fact, I think he navigated the pocket very well at times. Then someone comes loose through the middle and makes him look ridiculous and that's what sticks in peoples heads. He has the arm. He has the smarts. He has been working this off season to get better.

I can never see him being a top guy. I can, however, see us winning games with him if we have a real team around him.

My biggest fear, still, is the offensive line. It could run anyone and everyones plans if they do not improve.

Its either Mariota or Mett, imo. We suck too much to invest a second into a backup who may have to sit. Even if it isn't Williams, we could get one of two very highly regarded WR prospects, which we still need badly. Or a LB who could push our front 7 over the edge if Ouchpoko can stay healthy. Or even if we do pick Williams, that will still help improve this team very much. Our run defense was horrid last season and Williams is above being solid there as well.

Whoever we pick at 2, needs to be starting. If we pick a QB, then we need to go with them in place of Mett.

I've said from the beginning that Whiz will get 3 years. I don't see a scenario where that doesn't happen unless he actually produced a worse team ont the field next season.

Zach Mettenberger was never going to go that high, ACL tear or no ACL tear.

Todd Gurley plays a position that relies on movement a lot more than Mett does and is about to be a first round pick.

Dominique Easley tore his ACL twice in his college career, including his senior season, and the Patriots took him at 30.

Willis McGahee shredded his knee and was a first round pick.

Zach Mettenberger was a third day selection from the beginning of the process and stayed there.

Mett's problem was being absolutely awful until his senior season. Then during his senior year he was alright, despite being surrounded by Pro Bowl NFL talent. The off the field issues(pee test) may have bumped him down 40 selections.
