Basically just look at the "cap hit" column, that's what he's taking from our available $143 mil to spend. Cutler is the 7th highest paid QB in the NFL.

So again, big HELL NO to Cutler.

For those that say no to Cutler d/t contract I will try to explain a little about his contract because most probably haven't looked at the details of his contract so bear with me on the length of post.

Jay Cutler's contract is not guaranteed like most other player contracts due to he did not collect a signing bonus. His guarantees come through the first 3 years of the extension and goes into effect the year prior to the start of the season meaning his 2015 salary was guaranteed in 2014 just like his 2016 salary was partially guaranteed in 2015. If Cutler was traded then we are only on the hook for his base salary of $15.5 million in 2015 and $16 million in 2016. That is why I said Chicago would need to pay $10 million of his contract (which they are already on the hook to pay regardless) to complete the trade as it would make his 2 yr avg salary for 2015 and 2016 $10.75 million/year, which isn't bad for an above avg starter. The cap hit however would still be $15.5 and $16 million but these numbers are manageable for TN. Cutler then gets a 2 year trial period here to play and compete with Mett. If he does horrible then he can be cut after 2016 without any money owed and no dead money cap hit towards our salary cap. Upon trading Cutler all of his restructure bonuses and everything accelerates against Chicago and all of the restructure bonuses he has is paid by Chicago and counts towards their cap and not ours, thus a $30 million dead cap for Chicago.

I am in no way a Jay Cutler fan but that Chicago trade is the best. I can't believe I am typing this but he is an above average QB and pretty similar in skill set to Phillip Rivers. Main differences are Cutler is younger by a couple of years and Philip Rivers is more demonstrative on the field with his passion. Both will believe in their arm and they are both going to throw INTs trying to fit the ball through small windows. To trade with the Jets makes no sense when we can get an extra 3rd, an above avg vet QB, and probably a lot higher 2016 1st from Chicago than what we would get from the Jets. If we can pay Rivers a $100 million contract with over $50 million in guarantees and a $20million/year salary to cripple the cap then we might as well go the Cutler option and see what we get during those 2 years. If he plays well then Mett stays on the bench and he is still under contract for several more years. If he continues to suck then we have Mett and draft picks to use to rebuild.

People still seriously want Cutler? I don't care if he cost $100, I still wouldn't want him. The guy is a cancer in the locker room, regardless if he can sling the ball, he's a pouty little baby. No thanks.

Just keeping Cutler out of the locker room is worth it to me. His attitude is toxic. Did you see how the team stopped playing for him last year? Even if Mett beat him out and was the starter, he'd be pouting on the sidelines.

    #2 for #12, #19, #43, & 2016 1st

We then trade #12 + 4th for #9, owned by NYG. (1 pick before the Rams)

#9: Amari Cooper or Kevin White
19: Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon
    33: Jordan Phillips, NT, Oklahoma
    43: TJ Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh
    66: Nate Orchard, OLB, Utah
138: Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon St
    177: Jeff Luc, ILB, Cincinnati
208: Robert Myers, OG, Tennessee St

If Cooper/White are not available at #9, we stay put at #12 and take Devante Parker + keep our 4th.

We walk out of the draft with a [potential] elite WR and RB, two playmakers which we def need. Jordan Phillips is a massive run-stopping NT, which helps our AWFUL run defense last year. Also allows SLH to play DE (rotate with Pito), if needed. TJ Clemmings is our future at RT. Nate Orchard provides depth at OLB, in case Orakpo gets hurt. Mannion is no more than a 3rd string development QB, but next year will likely be our backup. Jeff Luc a 2down thumping ILB. Myers is depth at guard, who's very raw, but in 1-2 years could be our starting LG.

Mett has everything he needs around him to dominate. If he doesn't, we have Rivers potentially being a FA next year & 2 1sts to trade up (if needed) for a QB. If Mett does prove worthy, we now have a very young offense around him - and have 2 more 1sts to solidify our team next year.

    Get it done, Ruston!

I voted for the Rams deal....like the #10, plus getting high picks in 2016. That said, I am not sure we could extract that much for the #2.

I'm cool with running w/ Schwenke for another year. If not, that Wisneswki (sp), may still be available after the draft.

I like your line of thinking and the picks, but I don't think any team is giving up three 1sts. That's what the Skins gave up to get RGIII and it's agreed upon, almost across the board that they gave up too much. So I doubt we see a trade of that magnitude again.
