Here's a good off season/tax season read about how taxes factor into pro athletes decisions on where they'll chose to sign.

    edit- nevermind, misread.

I don't think it affects players nearly as much as people want to believe.

Just take the one guy listed, Flowers... nearly 1/3 of his total contract in taxes alone. Smart players should care.

For argument sake Brian Orakpo stood to give back $4M if he stayed in Washington vs coming to a state with no state income tax, Id say that money matters.

    well no....

But players aren't going to go to a team where they can't start or have good careers. A decent player isn't going to a team where he is going to get out shined by a better player and potentially lose snaps and get forgotten about.

Most of these players are going to go to a place where they think they can stand out, I am sure taxes do play some part of it. But someone like Delanie Walker was not going to go to say.....the Cowboys IF Tennessee had a state income tax.

Yea I don't think they're really thinking about it. I'm sure they will sh** a brick when they see how much is taking out of their paycheck like I do every time I get paid.

For his sake yea, maybe. This is likely his last contract and he has had injury issues. If he was 3-4 years younger.....probably not. He would probably go to a place to stand out and keep his name well known.

Success of these teams recently suggest otherwise. With Seattle being the outlier, and that isn't true historically.
