Kendall Wright will become one of the highest-paid players on the Tennessee Titans roster in 2016.

The Titans plan to exercise the fifth-year option on Wright's rookie contract, reports Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean.

Wright will earn $7.3 million next season, nearly matching the $8.2 million he will earn combined over the first four years of his career. His 2016 salary will be guaranteed for injury once the option is picked up in advance of the May 3 deadline.

The No. 20 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Wright took a step back last season, losing 37 receptions and 364 yards from his breakout 2013 totals of 94 catches and 1,079 yards.

He stands as a prime example of the value of location in determining NFL production.

Similar in talent level to Randall Cobb, Wright would be viewed as one of the NFL's elite slot receivers had he been drafted by the Packers. Instead, he's spent three years corralling errant passes from the likes of Jake Locker, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Charlie Whitehurst and Zach Mettenberger

The Titans won't get a full return on their investment in Wright until they find a franchise quarterback.

Good move, I like Kendall, we need to keep putting solid pieces like this in place. If we can get the O line up to par and Mett ( or whatever QB we may have) can have more than 2 seconds to make his reads and throws Kendall should be a dangerous weapon for us.

Mariota is not a dream, he will definitely be there at number 2. The other 2 QB's are for the dreamers but mentioning Mariota for the "dreamers"?

Winston is more for the dreamers than Mariota, don't ya think?

Glad we did this. Wish we would have locked him up long-term but nice to at least see us show him some love. He has earned his keep and this is completely deserved.

In all honesty, this is probably the biggest payday Wright is going to get. Slot receivers aren't breaking the bank on the open market.

Wes Welker, coming off of a stretch where he had fewer than 1,100 yards once in six years got a two-year $13 million deal. Victor Cruz got a five-year deal worth $43 million but only $9.5 million guaranteed. Danny Amendola received a five-year $31 million deal with $10 million guaranteed.

$7.3 million guaranteed for one year as a slot guy is pretty good.
