A post from On The Forecheck.. SB Nation site for the Preds.

    From poster named Hockey Hillbilly:

"As Tom Cigarran has often said, a professional sports team is best managed by local ownership that respects its fan base because it is part and parcel of the community. The moves Pred management has made in the past year by and large bear that out.
In startling contrast, the Houston-based management of the Titans has ignored its fan base for so many years that it has accomplished the seemingly impossible feat of alienating the very people who once described themselves as "the best fans in the NFL."
That’s why I still remain a Preds STH long after I let my Titans PSL go."

    Your thoughts on this????

I thought it was an especially good point, considering Nashville rallied around the Preds when rumors were swirling about them possibly moving out of town.

To add on, most people I know who have gone to both Preds and Titans home games have told me. Going to a Preds game and watching them lose is far more a better overall experience than going to a Titans game where they win.

Titans ownership and front office seriously needs to check themselves before they wreck themselves. They're walking on a tight rope.

Things all went into the ****ter when Jeff Diamond was dumped. For those that do not remember, or did not know, at the time the Oilers had the worst fan support in the history of the NFL. After alienating the people in Houston the Oilers were doing a horrible job winning over the people in Tennessee. That year in Memphis for example was a complete train wreck. Bud was also refusing to rename the team (I could understand Bud's point of view here but a name change was needed.)

It was going so bad that Paul Tagliabue made Bud hire Jeff Diamond and give him 5 year (I think) deal. He turned everything around and fan support was huge in Tennessee. Been going downhill ever since Diamond was dumped. Hopefully the new guy can change things.

Bringing in a local ownership for the Preds was the best thing that ever happened to them. The overall experience at BridgeStone Arena is by far much richer than that over at LP.

The Titans just need a good owner with good intentions.

And the only reason why the Preds ended up with a group of local owners is because they were inches away from being moved to Canada by the billionaire Canadian Blackberry co-founder Jim Balsillie, who also tried to do the same thing with the Coyotes.

I think in this case, the Titans need 1 owner that is both money smart and football smart, has a passion for the game and has the city of Nashville in his best interest. It's more than just running a team, it's about getting involved and improving the city in ways that benefit both the Titans and the fans living there.

That brings back memories....I remember the name thing. Not only was Bud refusing to rename the team, he was going back on an informal promise to do so if memory serves. I also seem to remember PSL sales hitting a wall sometime around that point, then selling out pretty quickly after the new name was announced.

I have said the exact same thing about Diamond several times.....my gut told me losing him was an inflection point back then, and I believe that to be the case even more so now.

LOL, he was trying to move them to the city I live in. He also tried it with the Penguins....... man that would have been sweet :)

It was never going to happen though. Balsillie is a brash guy was an absolute ****load of money. He could have bought the team and build an arena without financing any of it and without going to the government for money. But the city has a metro population of 500,000 people. Not the kind of market the NHL wants to get into. Also the rich and powerful Maple Leafs (Yankees of the NHL money wise) were doing everything they could to stop it. All Balsillie did was piss a lot of people off. Actually, I think there was a greater danger of the team moving to KC. Some dude named Boots Bataglia wanted to by them and move them to KC.

Boots had no chance, Leiopold wanted to sell the team to Balsillie but Bettman wouldn't allow it. Bettman wants to keep as many teams in the US as possible, which is why 110% of Canadians hate him.
