Based on the pre-pick anxiety I just assumed bridges were jumped from and so the law of averages kicked in and those posts went away.

Dunno....good pick in round 1 IMO. If Mett is going to cry into his pillow at night now because another young QB is in the ranks he is not the leader I wanted anyway.

I wanted us to trade down. I was disappointed we didn't because I thought the draft would be super exciting. It wasn't. I thought multiple picks would better help this team to be competitive. We didn't get them.

What we did was reset our QB hopes. Mettenberger really did not get a fair shake in this process. Drafting a new QB, albeit a very solid choice, is simply a "save my azz" move by Webster and Whiz. And a painfully apparent move for those of us who closely follow the team.

Believe me when I want to find fault in Webster. I just can't in this situation. He assessed a value for the #2 pick presumably based on his perception of Mariota's value. Many pundits had Mariota as the best QB in the draft. And when compared with Mett's performance, the "better" QB was clear. I can't fault Webster for that.

I do believe that Webster would have readily taken the first trade offer that matched his pre-determined value of the #2 pick. Reportedly, it didn't come and he stuck to his guns. I admire that type of management. That demonstrates a "no-panic" approach. That is how successful businesses are run.

I was completely disappointed in the entertainment level of the draft. We only have one player to follow as opposed to a few. But as hard as I try, I just can't fault Webster's management in that regard.

I'm 50/50 on the issue of whether this was a good move or not. This is a QB driven league. Mett didn't get a "fair" shot at playing, but there was nothing about his performance record that indicated he was a good probability to fair better than Mariota.

How many 6th-round QBs ever start an NFL game? How many do it their rookie season?

Mett was handed a gold ticket getting to start last season. He got the opportunity which, IMO, means he got about as fair a shake as he could have. He obviously didn't have much help but, if he'd shown more, I think the Titans would have gone another direction at #2.

Time will tell as to whether or not it was the right move. If it's a miss, you'll get your wish that Webster be kicked to the curb.

Agree with that as well. Webster's seat is going to be plenty hot this season IMO. He can still cool it down a bit with his work over the next couple of days.

Whis, on the other hand, is now the proud owner of a minimum 2 year insurance policy IMO. I really hope that he is a better coach than he showed me last year, otherwise it is going to be a dark period in team history.

I don't disagree with what you're saying. And I don't have fault with how we executed the draft. I'm ambivalent because I think multiple picks would have helped this team out MORE rather than picking Mariota for his obvious quality and "adapting" our system to fit his style. That move signals a bit of desperation for immediate fan support IMO.

I truly think the Titans wanted to trade out but didn't get enough to do it without looking like they got the shaft.

I started a thread on this subject weeks ago. I have no idea how much pressure Webster/Whiz got from ownership to find a face for the franchise but, no doubt, it was the best choice from a marketing standpoint.

That's dangerous short term marketing thinking though. Again, they HAVE to believe in Mariota regardless of buzz or marketing, because wins are the number 1 factor for marketing.
