If he's truly innocent, i'd gladly offer him a contract. Pretty sure every team in the NFL would.

I'm sure teams would have known he can't go into the 2016 draft. I would have done it.

7ths never really pan out anyway.

Well yea, of course. But he's gonna basically be able to choose where he wants to go.

If he's innocent, virtually every team would likely make an offer.

Wyatt was saying we wouldn't make him an offer even if his name does clear, which I found pretty odd.

Have you seen our 7th round pick from this year though?

And I'm not sure what your point here is... Teams would know the rules. Yes. Apparently if a team drafted him and he refused to sign a contract, he could've re-entered the draft next year. Therefore, that deferred teams from taking him. That and the possibility of him being a murderer.

My point was if his agent wasn't an idiot, someone probably would've taken a chance on him earlier... but since his agent said he wouldn't sign if drafted, it removed him from just about everyone's boards. Now he gets less money.

I'd bank on this agent being fired... depending on who it is. But judging from the mess it sounds like a scrub nobody.

    No. No one has.

Yeah we get excited by measurables but he's still a 7th round pick. And for a reason.

Collins was arguably the best OT in the draft. For a 7th, you do it.

If he doesn't sign, he doesn't sign. It doesn't help his case whatsoever regardless.

I mean highlights and high praise from guys like Polian... We've seen that. I didn't mean have you seen him in NFL action. No one has seen any of these picks in NFL action.

I would've done it in the 7th too... was just saying that our pick is not just some regular throw away.

Even said on day 3 I would take Collins in the 6th... but with the way our draft panned out, McBride was a safer choice in the 7th.

Collins was nowhere near the best OT though. Without the possible legal troubles, I wouldn't have taken him until the 2nd.

Actually it was a smart move. If Collins had been drafted in the late rounds his rookie contract would have prevented him from renegotiating for at least 3 years. Now, as an undrafted free agent he'll be getting essentially 7th round money for now BUT... and this is a big but... he will be able to renegotiate after just TWO YEARS. If he is good as people thinks and he hits a big payday in two years... he could end up making as much or MORE than the top first round picks over their initial 4 year contract period. That being said I hope we get him.

I think the issue is that IF someone drafted him, he could then not sign the contract and re-enter the 2016 draft. But as an undrafted player, he is limited to how much money he can get and how soon he can renegotiate.

So a team taking him at the end of the draft potentially gets him a multi-million dollar payday next year when he's a first rnd pick in the 2016 draft but doesn't get the player.

Only way this would work to draft him and convince him otherwise would be to show him he gets paid now and in 2 years, assuming he's doing what he should be doing, they will not only renegotiate the contract but also add in the millions he lost. But that is a rather big gamble and since his agent is apparently not the smartest in the bunch, doubt this is an effective move.

So that leaves him signing an UDFA contract and playing 2 years on a 7th rnd contract. Only good thing is, HE gets to pick the team. He very well may choose to sign with a SB contender but the caveat to that is there are none that need a rookie starting RT. He could be a backup for now, have a couple shots at a ring and then get paid. Other option is go to a team like Titans who have not set RT and earn a starting spot and get paid in 2 years. I think having a young QB like Mariota would help with that but potentially also Mett who should know him from playing at LSU at same time!!!

*If* he is innocent, I cannot imagine it would be all that hard to tie performance stipulations into his contract. I can't imagine that if this guy was a 4 four starter, he would be getting paid as an UDFA for all that long. Besides, all he would have to do is hold out.

If he sucks, then he sucks. Its how rookies should be handled in the first place.
