I don't see them as anywhere near the same. RG3 was a QB that could run. He could throw, hit moving targets, had a great deep ball, etc. Nothing he couldn't do. RG3 was by far more pro ready.

Mariota is smarter??? No. He isn't. They both graduated in 3 yrs. RG3 from Baylor studying Political Science. RG3 also graduated HS a semester early.

RG3 busted because he couldn't stay healthy. Which does kind of come with the territory.

Mariota will have to run, and he's not fast enough, because he doesn't have the throwing ability guys like RG3 have. So... likely to be injured too.

    Why is it obvious?

What adversity has Mariota had to overcome? How do we know he'll not be a whiner or diva?

All these guys look like amazing character guys when they win every game in college. VY looked like a great character guy too. Until he started losing and was pressured by fans and media.

Just so people understand about not taking a Clemming. Stress fractures occur because there has been stress in excess of what a person's ligament support system can properly distribute. The only way to heal it and prevent future breaks is to either wear custom orthotics or dramatically reduce the physical load- weight loss/ reduced activity.

It was SMART to avoid that guy.

There was the potential for an A+ draft but the middle rounds left most of us scratching our heads. And we had many opportunities to draft a starting RT (a HUGE NEED) but chose not to. Maybe Poulasi can surprise...but I felt he, Blackson, and Fowler were over drafted by a round or more.

I didn't love the DGB pick but he's good value. McBride could be one of the steals of the draft as most people had a 3rd or 4th rnd grade on him. Also, was disappointed we didn't add more at OLB considering we aren't exactly stacked for depth at pass rusher but we ARE stacked on DL depth!

I'm not sure why people keep harping on Mariota "having" to run. The system he was in was designed that way. His measurables are solid. He threw the ball well at the combine. He threw well on the few drop backs we saw and a ton on the run. His character is solid. Yes he'll have to learn a new system but so what? There is every indication he can do that easily and ahead of schedule. I think his demeanor combined with his work ethic will be well received by veterans.

Winston's immaturity is going to blow him up within 2 years. He's a loud mouth tub of goo.

There's so much boom or bust in this draft class I don't even know how I would begin to rate it.

Basically, in 4 years this draft will either be an A+ or an F, there is no in between with these picks.

The safe route would have been to draft Cooper with the 2nd and work on fixing the OLine and stuffing the run after that. The approach we actually took was to start all over with Mariota and hope we caught lightning in a bottle. This draft was risky, but I hope it works out for us.

Ok so if Mariota doesn't work or if he gets hurt. We've got Mett under contract and he gets a big payday or we get to trade Mett after a year or two. I don't see this as all " boom or bust" as everybody is stating.

Now I agree that the difference between Mett and Mariota IS less (in terms of immediate team quality) improvement than trading down and getting 1 or 2 more 1st round picks. But that is equally as risky IMO. And the reward if we "hit" in gaining franchise QB be it Mariota or Mett is by far worth the risk Of having taken another QB.

Well, my comments weren't only about Mariota, but also DGB. Our top two picks have the potential to either be really good or complete busts.

If Mariota is a bust then I'm not sure what we could trade him for (what could we have traded Locker for? VY?), or why we would trade Mett if Mariota is a bust. And if DGB goes all Kenny Britt on us then we're back at Wright and Hunter.

They were risky picks. That doesn't make them bad picks, and I'm not against what the FO did. I understand that they're trying to save their jobs, and the safest approach with a view towards building the team up around Mett was not going to necessarily save their jobs next year. I'm just saying that this is one of those drafts where the FO rolled the dice, and as such I can't really say whether they did a good job or a bad job.

That said, had the Bucs taken Mariota and we drafted Winston AND DGB I would be giving this draft a straight up F.
