Maybe he is better but it's still a pretty bad comparison. Vince had bad throwing mechanics coming out of college and was an idiot that didn't like to work hard.

Too bad Don Ho is not around anymore....could have been a bit of potential there LOL.

Seriously though, he does have the look for a great endorser. Good looking kid. If he can perform at all at the NFL level he will do very well with endorsements IMO.

Lockers biggest issue was this inability to run a diverse offense. He was basically useless on a shallow crossing route/slant/moving horizontal target. He routinely missed these throws.

His best plays were curls and sit routes where he could basically throw to a net. Otherwise he couldn't hit the target, always ahead or behind the WR.

While this sounds like "well we could have built an offense to do that and he could have succeeded" - this limits the ability for the offense to attack different defenses and eventually DC caught on forcing us to run stuff that he couldn't be accurate on. Take away what he can do and it was over. Add in injuries and you have the recipe for retirement.

    that and

you can't have an actual offense without slants, that has to be the second easiest throw in the game.

If Locker came from a college team routinely in the hunt for a national championship - and had there been a nonstop hype machine around him as Mariota had, his perception coming to The Titans would have been as a slam dunk NFL stud.
See VY. Dogs thought he was going to be the second coming of the messiah..

The difference between Mariota and Locker is huge. Locker had a lot of flaws in his game coming out of college. Injuries, accuracy, winning games ... all tangible flaws that were on display almost every week with him. We just made excuses for him when we drafted him.

"He didn't win because his team was so bad" ... "With NFL coaching and his work ethic, his accuracy will improve" ... "injuries were just bad luck, his luck may change in the NFL"

Locker had a lot of flaws that we all thought (or convinced ourselves) would change once he got to the NFL ... But pretty much everything that we saw from him in college, he brought to the NFL.

But even through all his flaws, I think Locker could've been a decent NFL QB if not for his injuries.

On the other hand, Mariota had very few tangible flaws in college. In fact the biggest knock on MM is just the style of offense he played in, not anything that he specifically wasn't good at. And it seems that a lot of coaches and GMs may have bought into that at 1st as well, but after really watching his tape, most seemed to have backed off on that narrative.

I think that Mariota is light years ahead of Locker coming out of college.

Glad to see some of Locker's strongest supporters finally coming to emotional terms with him being a flop.

Locker = Never won in college. Mariotta = dominant in college
Locker = Couldn't complete high school routes Mariotta = Much more accurate
Locker - Mariotta = No comparisons.

I have high hopes this time. Locker draft it seemed like none of us loved the pick and tried to talk ourselves into it.
