Mettenberger to 'fight it out' with Mariota, Lewan says

Interesting take from Lewan's perspective. I knew Lewan and Mett were friends and was concerned the Mariota pick might create unproductive conflict.

I suspect this topic might surface regularly as these two are "competing".

I think this is fine. Lewan is not dissing Mariota here, and he is friends with Mett. It is understandable that he would make comments like this.

If Mett has really been working that hard and is in that good of shape, we will see it in camp IMO. Best case (for him) is that he can hold onto the job (doubtful because of Whis's comments IMO). More realistically, I see him backing Mariota up this season, and spelling him when he gets hurts or struggles (which rookies normally do from time to time). What he does with these opportunities will determine what he does in 2016 and beyond.

    All up to him IMO.

Finally, if what Lewan is saying about the trade rumor is correct, Mett really does need to whack that agent.

I don't buy the whole agent asking for a trade thing.

Complete bull****, if I was in his position, I would fire that guy immediately if he did that and did not consult me first.

I know we are in for a QB controversy at some time this season, but it needs to be because of the performance of these two QBs and Lewan should stay out of it IMO. Your job is to block and not have anyone know your name.

Yeah...me too. Until I see Mett whack his agent, I still go with my theory on how the trade thing evolved....agent calls Mett, and convinces a young, impressionable guy that this would be a good tactic. Whole thing blows up in their faces. If Mett fires the guy in that scenario the guy talks and the truth comes out.

I cut Lewan some slack here....Mett is his buddy, and these guys are all very young. There will be some growing pains IMO.

Maybe that is why Mett has lost 15 pounds in the offseason. Can't coach speed though LOL.

My guess is that the offense is not completely flipped over to a spread offense though. I suspect that it is going to be some form of hybrid.

Yea but how much does it affect the other positions?

does the routes stay the same, does the blocking scheme change at all?

Is it a faster pace when Mariota is in?

The part where Lewan should probably choose his comments wisely was when he mentioned "the whole team thinks Mett is the starter" type of stuff.

I'm glad Mariota will have good competition during camp. I really think Mariota will be ready when camp starts. He'll have some rookie mistakes, but he'll learn from them.

I am sure that there will be differences, but that is hardly abnormal. O'Donnell was different than McNair, for example. KFC was different than VY. Many other examples of this.
