DW keeps posting that Rose Bowl video and Mariota does 100 percent undeniably have accuracy issues on 15-25 yard pocket passes.

I believe it all boils down to his footwork and release working together. It seems he is so used to rolling out that when he does stay in the pocket his quick release and footing do not time up well with each other. These need to be PERFECT to throw super accurate throws of that distance. He is so god damn jumpy in his footwork I can't blame him for being inaccurate.

He calms the happy feet in the pocket we have a winner. If he does this and is able to do this successfully we do have a similar QB to Aaron Rodgers. He does not play like ARod currently. He does have similar decision making ability which is going to lead to success. Given Whiz, he more than likely will attempt to breed him into something a long those lines.

    Thoughts? Opinions?

Man, people talk about Mariota throwing a lot of screens, literally 1/3 of Hundley's passes were screens lol

And actually Mariota threw less than the average college QB

I am not talking about how many screens he threw. Those charts are nice and fancy. It does not account for ball placement sadly.

He does have ball placement issues deep which need to be addressed in order for him to be Top 10.

    1. It's not his "happy feet"

His forward arm opens up early. Really early. His stance is high and his release point has the tip of the ball up.

He has a hitch in his throwing motion. It's not a smooth curving motion. It's out and up... And then he drags it down to throw. His misses are high and low.

His issue with his stance is his feet arnt wide enough and this is causing his deep ball issues. Lack of hip torque.

He presses his chest into his throws with his forward arm opening too soon. This along with his shallow stance causes power issues.

His mechanical lift and drag motion causes high/low misses. His shallow stance creates his deeper ball placement issues.

In the pocket he has to learn to set his feet better overall

You do realize that most of his throws down the field were to wide open WR's though.

I have watched a lot of Mariota and he has an easy time throwing the ball to open WRs. But I've also found instances where he KILLED the ball placement over the middle against tight man coverage. It's not gonna be a quick transition but he can do it given the opportunity

I agree. He has the mind to be a successful QB. He can make correct decisions majority of the time. If you boosted Luck's decision making a little and gave Mariota his arm and placement they could be similar.

He now has two receivers with the wingspan of a pterodactyl, ball placement shouldn't be an issue..
