Cutler is the worst type of QB to have. Just good enough to be arguable to keep around.

I'm not saying Cutler is garbage. I would've been fine having him a stopgap for a couple years. But I'd need another 1st thrown in to even consider that trade.

We don't really know what we're getting with Mariota but if we hit then we could potentially be set at the position for the next decade. Now that it's all said and done I'm glad we decided to go with youth rather than trading the #2 pick in a Rivers/Cutler deal.

One of the things that sold me that this would be a good deal was that cutler is fairly consistent. He doesn;t have a MVP type year and then have total crap year the next season. He is fairly predictable. He will give you an 87 passing rating with 25 Tds and about 15 ints. He starts 14 games a year.

The other thing is comparing Cutler to the typical backup QB. In a league where Matt Moore makes $2.6M Cutler doesn't look so bad. He is clearly better than Sanchez, Hoyer or McCown backups making $4.5-$5M a year. After a couple of seasons we can get rid of him and go to Mett.

No way. If not take the first round picks and players from eagkes, not taking the Bears offer either. Cutler is is tease. Kind of like locker but not as brittle. They have all you look for but can't get it done. We have had enough of that. No thanks

Cutler's contract is not that bad either. He gets $15M this year and $16M next year but it is straight salary. No pro rated SB to worry about and no option or even roster bonuses until 2017.

You have to be trolling. In consecutive posts you argued that Cutler is consistent and that he has a good contract.

Was that a good move for them?

A first next year is like a 2nd this year.

I have to create a scenario that is realistic, that a team like the Bears would actually agree to. Obviously if you can get more the deal becomes more attractive but if the deal is never made it is worth nothing.

He is consistent and i said his contract is not as bad as some think. I never said it was good.

I never said it was a good move for them. You said giving up 2 future 1sts to move up 5 spots was "a fantasy". I was merely saying it has happened before.

Sawdust used the term stop gap. That is accurate and you don't make that move without Mettenberger in the mix. Hasselbeck was a stop gap in 2011 but Cutler is better. Also costs a lot more.
