I understand that and I'm not disagreeing that he'll need to learn to play in different formations and under a new offense. Just saying that people throw him under the bus for the spread offense, when it is a very proven successful offense for a lot of the best quarterbacks in the league. Belichick smartly leaned on it even more last season (and obviously had great success) as Brady's arm strength dwindled.

I just think Mariota is going to impress a lot of people with his passing. Some people talk about him like he's Terrelle Pryor or something. He improved as a passer each year and Oregon let him sling it more as he did..

All I am looking for in his arm, is the ability to make the passes when the WR doesnt have 5 yards of free space. The ability to throw into tight windows has been one of his biggest knocks from the beginning. If he learns to do that, it'll do wonders for his career. Ive seem some excellent passes from Mariota, but in the NFL, itll have to be done consistently.

You are confusing a spread offense and a purely read-option/zone-read offensive scheme. Two entirely different schemes. For instance, Derek Carr ran a Spread offense and Marcus Mariota ran a gimmick(zone-read/read option) scheme.

Well first of all the Whis hating was based on actual performance. That's different than hating on a guy before he's even set foot on a NFL field.

Secondly, while not super high on Whis at this point I think I've defended him more than most were willing to after year one.

Expecting anything out of this team last season was like expecting Munch to put up a good record with no talent.

Whiz has been in more than one super bowl. Whether riding on the back of a HOF QB or a rookie who is very good. (Ben) All but one little crybaby of a QB that played under Whiz said the system works if he has a QB.

This board as a whole hated losing last year and put it on Whiz and branded him the candy man last season

I believe the whole premise of this Draft pick was a sham. Tommy wanted a winner and was going whatever he could to get it. Other management are worried about butts in the seats so they chose excitement. I could easily be wrong about this and it wouldn't be the first time. I'm don't hate on Mariota, I just think that he is this year's hype QB and that we're going to hope he pans out.

When you have a large amount of plays that call for the QB to run, then you get the "running QB" stigma. I'm tired of running QBs. For a decade, the fan base has been divided into two categories for QBS. The group that wants the next McNair, and the group that wants the pocket QB. I'm skeptical of going down that road again. Even if Mariota has put up good passing number and an amazing TD:INT ratio.

Just like the locker room, he's going to have to win me over. I want to, but can't just jump on his bandwagon.
