    To start the season ...

    Hunter/Wright/Douglas - starting

    DGB/McBride/Nicks - rotating

I don't expect a rookie to crack the starting lineup week 1.

I don't see how the guy who doesn't know any routes is going to be 1 or 2. Just don't see it.

People need to remember, or realize, that Hunter lead the league in uncatchable passes last year (Wright was 12th). Over 40% of passes thrown his way were uncatchable. Yes, he needs to do more and make bigger plays, but we cant say its all on him. Mariota will help him a lot. Make him look a lot better. 40%! That's a huge amount. He still can be very effective. Another reason why I think he did better in preseason when Locker and Mett were healthy and not getting thrown to the ground every other play. Coach Jefferson needs to step it up this year as well. He was known as being able to develop big and fast WR (Calvin Johnson), he has two projects this year. He needs to hit on one.

    Starters/backups will be :

    Hunter Wright (Walker) DGB
    Nicks McBride (Fasano) Douglas

Its going to be either McBride or Ford for the #6 wr spot. They will also be the kick/punt returner. (We can keep a 6th because that'll also be Leon W. spot from last year.)

You guys are setting DGB up for major failure even more than you did JH.

    This backlash should be interesting...

I fully realize what DGB is. He's perhaps as big of a "boom or bust" pick as this franchise has ever selected. I'm just interested to see how it pans out. If he's the next Brandon Marshall I won't be too shocked. If he's a complete and total turd I won't be too shocked.

Considering our history with drafted WRs I don't mind the gamble.

That's exactly how I feel about him....He is going to either be awesome or a swing and a miss. With his size and as bad as the franchise is, you take that chance in the second. I would have been fine taking Strong or Smith too.

Tell me what the reasons you think are, because none of the scouts seems to know.

Well he came from a small school obviously, and I don't think he ever showed how to beat a press. The guys in the NFL are much bigger and athletic then him and I'm not sure hes there physically. I'm kinda downgrading him based on his competition I know but I think it will be where he struggles the most.

I do like the pick overall, but I'm not expecting him to break the starting roster this year.

The problem is, the players with the most upside potential are the players with the most question marks. KW will be in the top 3. Ideally he's the slot but since we don't have consistency on the outside, he may play there a lot too. Douglas is the safe vet. He can play outside or in the slot and in a perfect world, he also is more ideally suited to be a slot guy.

That leaves Hunter and DGB. Both are best suited to the outside but both are raw. hunter knows the offense and has some time under his belt but was really underwhelming last year. DGB will be his competition this year as I believe Hunter only learned one wr position and DGB is slated to work at the same position according to one article i read.

So to start the season I expect KW, Douglas and Hunter to be our top 3 with them HOPING Hunter is good enough to be a top 2 WR so Douglas or KW can just play the slot. I expect DGB to get snaps both when Hunter is tired or not playing well and definitely in red zone situations.

So Hunter and DGB are the things that will drastically move things up or down on the depth chart. I hope Jefferson looks back to what the Vikings did with Moss to get him on the field immediately and get big plays out of him without having to teach him the entire offense or even the entire route tree!

One thing that should really help the WR's make big plays is Mariota. If we can pound the ball more effectively because the run threat of the QB improves our run game, we will have more opportunities for playaction passes. Additionally, with Mariota's ability to buy time, we definitely have the quickness and speed to get people wide open all over the field!
