The only person here trying to make overarching conclusions from stats is you.

No one has said "Mariota had an outstanding TD/Int ratio. Well, that's it. He's the next Manning".

Certain stats let you draw certain conclusions, it isn't that hard.

TD/Int is a good metric of decision making. The other QBs on that list are great decision makers.

If you want to know why they failed, you don't throw your hands up in the air and say "OH man this stat is useless!"

Just look at other stats. Combine measurable, wins/losses, talent around them. Take your pick. Use your head. Not that hard.

But drawing conclusions about Mariota because he has a good stat with guys who were bad NFL Qbs is not a valid knock against him.

It sucks pigeon holing yourself to where you feel the need to root against your favorite teams new rookie quarterback. Lets enjoy the excitement, this off season is more entertaining than all of last season. Why hate on Mariota so soon? We will know soon enough if he's the truth. Be glad we got em.

I'm not saying good stats are necessarily a knock. Just saying plenty of non NFL caliber qbs put up great college stats

If you truly want to evaluate stats, you have to compare Mariota to QBS who run similar offensive systems and look at their success rates.

So that means you throw out the Mannings, Brees, Rodgers, Wilsons, Luck, etc.

And you do a comparison with the likes of Scott Frost, Tommy Frazier, Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, Alex Smith, colt McCoy, Vince Young

Rodgers didn't exactly run a pro style system at Cal. And no, you don't have to compare stats of similar offenses only. Again, not as long as you use your head and know what conclusions can come from each stat.

I didn't say Rodgers ran a Prostyle offense. He ran a traditional passing spread offense.

In order to justify and quantifiably evaluate stats, you must compare Mariota to other read-option/zone read QBs.

That is until after year 1 when you're all asking the questions on how to best utilize Mariota's skills. We already know how, don't reinvent the wheel. Run a full zone read scheme

Everybody should agree with my statement lol. Luck gets more love then Rodgers somehow when Rodgers is clearly the BEST QB in the game right now.

But if they hate on him now then they could be the first ones to say "told ya so" if he busts and then own the internet because they're so smart. I go back to the last draft we took a QB. Didn't like Gabbert, didn't like Ponder, knew Cam was going 1st overall, and Locker was highly questionable but had the intangibles I guess. Wasn't exactly the best group but still supported the guy we selected. Everyone has officially recycled their arguments for the millionth time over the past 3 months about Mariota. Please football hurry up and give us something to actually talk about.

I have questions about Mariota myself but I for one am excited the franchise made a bold decision and went with a potential franchise changing QB instead of handing the keys to an average QB for another year and continue on with our track of the very bottom in the NFL. I'm excited, I'm pumped and I'm actually ready to watch Titans football. Something that doesn't exactly happen too much anymore.

We had the keep the pick or trade the pick debate for months. Guess we moved on is he good or sucks? Guys, he is our QB. Get on board and wait and see . We argue to argue. Let the game play out and let him show if is THE man or not. Nobody knows yet.

It's funny , I really wanted us to just trade the pick initially but as the draft got closer I found myself wanting us to take Mariota. Glad he's a Titan.
