With pick #2 of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select: Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

I won't be at all shocked if Mett looks better in camp. He does have a year's experience now and is the more polished pocket passer at this point. But when the real games start is when we'll start to really see what we have in Mariota.

 

How many other teams' fans would complain that the 3rd string QB that was thrust into a starting spot and lost every game he played isn't given a fair competition in camp to the 2nd overall pick?

I think the Titans are the only ones.

 

I wonder if Mettenberger ever thinks about the fact that if he had won even one game, then we wouldn't have been in the position to draft Mariota.

 

And the thing is, Mett already had his shot. He had a tryout to be this team's starting QB ... He didn't win the job. And the chance Mett got last year is better than most 6th round QBs will EVER get.

This is the NFL. You shouldn't be given chance after chance to win the job, you have to take advantage of every opportunity you have, because in the NFL opportunities are few and far between.

Mett played valiantly last year in the situation he was in, but in the end it wasn't enough. The only thing that matters in the NFL is wins, and Mett couldn't even get 1. Its time to move on. If he had won a game or 2, then the Titans are not in position to even draft his replacement, so Mett should be mad at no one other than himself.

That being said, I'm not saying Mett should give up. It is certainly his right to go out "fighting to the death", but I just don't understand all the Mett apologists.

 

lol yeah. I really don't get it. We haven't had a legit franchise QB in literally A DECADE. You'd think our fanbase as a whole should be thrilled at the mere possibility of Mariota becoming that guy.

 

This QB competition will only make both of them better. We'll see who will be the last one standing. Mett of course has a slight advantage since he's one year in and knows the playbook.

 

I was just about to say the same thing. When you're a 6th round pick you have to make the most out of any and every shot you are given. Because it's not guaranteed you're ever going to get another one. May not be "fair" but it's just the nature of the league. 3rd day QB selections don't always get a mulligan.

You certainly can't put the 0-6 record all on Mett. But the bottom line is he did not show enough to instill confidence in the FO/staff that he is worth banking their jobs on. Can't blame them one bit.

 

He showed enough to not get cut or traded. That should be a winner in Mett's book.

 

Exactly ... Most people complaining about drafting Mariota and not giving Mett the job are probably the same people that complain that we wasted too much time on VY and Locker.

At least we aren't waiting 4-5 years to see if Mett is the guy. The coaches absolutely did the right thing. They gave Mett plenty of time last year in games and in practice to evaluate him as the starting QB. They decided there was a better option and moved on ... No need to waste more time.

 

Hello Titans fans. This is my first post to your fan page. I am a University of Oregon alum and a huge Marcus fan so naturally I have begun to follow the Titans now! I just wanted to re-assure anyone here who may have doubts about what you have in Marcus that you really don't know how lucky you are to have him on your team. I've watched every game he's played at Oregon and have followed his college career on and off the field. You should be proud to have him as the face of your franchise for the foreseeable future. He is about to change how the NFL sees the QB position.
