He has the arm to put speed on the ball. That's pretty obvious watching his proday, drills at combine as well as just these clips from mini camp.

The difference between his throws in college and now are those WRs were particularly wide open. You don't have to gun the ball to wide open WRs lol.

His far hash out route throw is more than adequate. Might not be lockers gun but it's impressive

Look guys - if yall are expecting more than 3200 yards this season- yall are mistaken.

    3200/500 pass- rush and 16-10 td/int

That's probably on the high end. All this other nit picking is pretty well pointless. First pro practice and already all the useless bitching that he isn't Peyton manning yet.

Those stats are a major downgrade over what mett would give us..but yes thats what I'd project.

I think mett would be able to push 3800 but none of the running. He also had red zone trouble last year as well. So honestly a similar result. Also I think his high variance style would cause double the amount of INTS. He loves the intermediate range and pushing the ball- Mariota I believe will be much lower variance and sustain drives thru smart plays.

I think the plan is a quick hitting offense. Put mariotas strength on display. Mett loved to wait around in the pocket with complete security. Rarely got rattled. But he held on to the ball excessively long. This didn't always hold water in actually sustaining drives.

Stats are NOT game winning drives however. Third down percentage is something I want to continuously watch and compare. That's the money down and we need to be fielding a qb that makes plays in those situations.

The problem is you have a totally unrealistic idea of what Mett would do in year 2. Short of thinking he's Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck, you give him stats which you think are easy to get ('any decent qb could get...') but if you actually look at stats, only 8 QB's accomplished those stats. So projecting Mett to be a top 10 QB after only 6 starts and more turnovers than TD's is more than a bit unrealistic. Is it impossible? No. Probably? No.

I think Mett could throw more TD's due to two things. First, we'd be losing more games so he'll rack up more yards when defenses are playing soft. Second, he tends to throw the ball farther down the field. Big plays are good but not at the expense of sustaining offense which is what we did more often then not last year. When you are near historic low's in 3rd down conversion, you have a big problem!

I think we will be in more games this year with Mariota (IF Whiz can figure out how to blend the offenses and playact them effectively) and have more sustained offense. As Mett will have to reduce turnovers by not forcing balls into coverage, making quicker decisions so as not to hold the ball too long and get hit, Mariota will have to make sure he does a better job securing the ball when he runs and scrambles.

Turnovers and sustaining offense will be key for us to control clock and keep our D fresh and win the field position battle.

Good point that Mett has the gunslinger attitude and wants to throw down the field. Those plays usually take longer to happen and he doesn't move very well. Mariota usually is about getting ball out quick and hitting the underneath to mid range targets. Move the chains. Plus MM is mobile and can make the time for the downfield throws .

One other point. With Mett in nobody going to put a spy on him, that's another defensive player can rush the QB or drop in coverage. With MM they going to have to be mindful of his running ability which leaves defense with one less pass defender. Or opens up single coverage for a WR.
