Not taking that guy in the seventh round was dumb. What in the world will we do without Tre McBride, or at the very worst, a wasted seventh round pick?

From the sound of that article the polygraph test performed during the draft should have been enough to select him late.

NFL teams do truly stupid things sometimes.

I agree...especially with RT being a big need for us...that's how great teams become great...take chances....using a Jerry Maguire quote...hang your balls out there..lol

Its sounds like Collins' agents were pretty much doing everything they could to keep him undrafted after the 3rd. Some team apparently texted his agent in the 7th with intentions to pick him but his agents said "Dont embarrass yourselves. It will be a wasted pick".

After the 3rd, they were looking to get him a better deal as a UDFA after this investigation stuff blew over.

Like I said, what's the worst that happens, you "waste" a seventh round pick?

If we did pick him in the 7th.. what kind of hoops would his agents have to jump through to keep him off our team? Is it as simple as just not signing the contract?

    Yeah, it's that easy.

But they also the run the risk of him getting injured while training for the 2016 draft, other legal issues arising, a great crop of OTs emerging in 2016 and his skills eroding from the layoff. All without getting paid.

I don't think there's any doubt he would have signed. Teams just didn't want to deal with the press of him possibly not signing.

I guess after a team has drafted you.. you cant turn down the contract and still be available as a free agent or anything like that?

Exactly. They own your rights until the next draft cycle.

Totally should have drafted Collins.. its not like a little bad press is gonna make things any worse at this point.
