This is about the worst trade we could have made for numerous reasons. Since you think this is defensible, let me try to help you out for why it is a terrible trade.

Essentially, you are equating Cutler with 1st and 2nd rnd picks. If you are suggesting we dump him after 2 years, that is a colossal failure!

Secondly, you think we should be trading for a qb who gets us more wins now but is not good enough to go anywhere in the playoffs. This is the WRONG idea. The idea in football is to WIN THE SUPERBOWL!!! We can all agree we don't know IF Mariota or Mett are good enough, but we can all agree we KNOW Cutler is NOT good enough! So would you want to trade a 1st and 2nd round pick value for a 2 yr stop gap just to sneak into the playoffs for 2 seasons with no hope of even getting to the super bowl only to then start Mettenberger? Doesn't make sense. If Mett is the long term answer, you play HIM NOW and build up the team around him.

Thirdly, you don't seem to understand the destructive nature of Cutler's contract. Since it is fully guaranteed this year, you can't cut him as you can't not pay him. Even worse, shortly into this season, 2016's contract year will also be fully guaranteed...so again, you can't cut him. Having a sb would help us because we could get by for a while with him having a lower cap number but this guaranteed yearly contract thing hamstrings the team each season!!! Not only that, but he's paid like a top 5 or top 10 QB and doesn't play anywhere near that.

And that brings me to your misinterpretation of his stats. By QB rating he is a middle of the pack type passer. last season was his best in 4 years by far and he still was only marginally better than Mark Sanchez and Charlie Whitehurst who cost less than a 3rd of Cutlers contract and don't require any draft pick compensation. Sanchez is a multi-yr vet we could have signed for no picks and at much less cost if we wanted a stop-gap qb....so why make a big trade for a super expensive mediocre QB?

Lastly, Cutler is even less good than his QB rating because QB rating doesn't take into rushing stats and for him that means turnovers in the form of fumbles lost. Cutler has NEVER posted a 2:1 TD to INT ratio as a passer which is not good and when you add in his fumbles lost, his ratio of TD's to turnovers is atrocious and of the backup QB level. And btw, when was the last time you saw a QB get such a huge contract get BENCHED?

Giving up even a 2nd rnd pick for a 2-yr stop gap QB wouldn't be worth it when we could have signed a similar guy in Sanchez for free (in terms of picks) and a fraction of the cost. If Cutler can't help us get to a level where we can compete for the Super Bowl, I wouldn't want him for a pack of gum, let alone a draft pick or two.

As I mentioned earlier in the year, only way I'd take Cutler is if they gave him to me and gave me THEIR 2nd rnd pick for wasting 15-16mil of my cap space!!!
