IMO this is a good thing. Makes kickers relevant again since they moved KO's forward and there is such a high % of touchbacks.

And it statistically blasts open the scoring scenarios. Imagine a false start on a PAT- hmmmm, holding call? roughing kicker? safeties become relevant, etc.

I just see a chitload of scoring changes and end of game philosophies being greatly impacted.....

Why are people whining about hypothetical situations like a PAT being missed in a close game?(not here) That's the point!

What if a field goal is missed? What if a TD isn't scored? You can ask hypothetical questions about every thing!

To me, it won't make much of a difference. PATS were unnecessary plays to begin with. This adds a very small percentage of chance for a miss.. Not quite ruining the game like some seem to think.

Also, I like the idea of the D being able to return it for points. This adds extra incentive for both sides to play hard on PATS which equals more football action for us fans. What's wrong with that?

These are some of the best kickers in the world. No way this makes a big difference at all. When i was in high school my "automatic" range was from 30 yds out. These guys should have no problem hitting these. It still trips me out that teams don't recruit soccer players that are free kick specialists (like i was) and pay them enough to leave the sport.

What's your longest kick? I knew a guy who could just boot it 65 yards, but with little accuracy

    This is pretty dumb.

The stats say that the % drops to like 91% from the 15. However, it doesn't account for a very important fact.

The ball is often on the hash marks, making it a significantly harder kick.

From the middle of the field, the % won't be low enough for this to matter.

We used to practise field goal kicking, I was the kicker.

Sooooo many times I ended up kicking the ball up the linemans ass.

My longest in a game was 47, the lonest i ever hit in practice was 62. But, wasnt accurate from there, i could hit 50 yarders in practice with probably a 80% success rate. But it's a lot different in a game, you can't just drive the ball, you have to loft in, kind of. My coach wouldn't even try a kick over 40 unless it was a game winning situation (which i was 6 for 7 on in my 2 year hs football carreer).

That where the soccer skills helped me a ton. I never once did that, but saw it happen when others tried. Thats why i even tried to play kicker in the first place. I played " monster man" on d, which was an extra safety pretty much and wr/rb on offense.

Teams aren't supposed to miss PATs. They're a formality... A gimme. You can either take the automatic point or gamble for 2.

That's why removing PATs altogether would've been a better alternative.

No kicker, coach, or player will like this. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
