I remember watching a segment on some sports show with CJ that was basically a rap video. Flaunting a lime green and yellow car with 30" rims, big gold chains and of course his gold grill. I knew he was an idiot, but didnt really get the thug wanna be vibe until I saw that.

Since then he was implicated in some prostution/drug ring and has been shot..so he pretty much solidified it.

Sad that he was the best player and "face of the franchise" for several years.

    CJ isn't a real thug.

    He is a faux thug.

I agree. I meant he cemented his place as a wanna be. I never thought of him as thuggish...just stupid. Then it was confirmed he though he was living in a rap video.

What if I had 30" rims on a bright green car, would I be a thug too?

I get your point, but let's be honest here. You can stereotype people by their interests ect and be right for the most part. Just like a guy in ranglers and cowboy boots driving a jacked up truck that loves hunting and fishing is perceived as a country bumpkin redneck.

Not saying anything is wrong with either of those groups but there are identifying features to "personalities" in MOST cases. There are exceptions. And again, I'm fine with anyone being whatever they want to be as long as they're not harming other people etc...

Hell, I drive an Impala with 18" chrome wheels, dark tint ect... I'm sure plenty of people stereotype me as "thug". They expect me to be bumping rap music and get out with my pants down to my knees and my hat cocked sideways. In most cases I'd be jamming punk and wearing a work uniform or skateboarder-esq clothing.

My whole point was that some people are put off by these personal images, even if the person is a perfectly fine human being. So a guy like Mariota is going to be more accepted than a guy like CJ as a face of the franchise.

I wish CJ was a thug, thugs don't get tackled by the wind... they inhale and fart it out for turbo runs Beast Mode style. All those skittles aren't for nothing, Marshawn Lynch craps out rainbows that enable him to do unhuman things

Hmm... wonder which is better, a real thug or a wannabe? Probably more wannabes out there than actual thugs...

If you had gold teeth, dreadlocks, guns, 30" rims but you could run like the wind and score touchdowns from 80 yards out making defenders look like fools trying to grab you - then we'd all love you.

As soon as your skill set diminishes and your not as good - all that gold teeth and thug life persona isn't so cute anymore and it's time to go
