Mett had the second highest QB rating of all rookie QB's last year. Mett set framchise and NFL passing records in two of the six games he played in. Mett had a 110 QB rating against Pittsburgh. Mett had 350 yards passing at Philly. You don't like Mett fine thats one thing but the fact is he played well and thats even more impressive when you see he had a crappy offensive line,no running game and a league worst defense.

First off, no one is saying Mett was or is terrible. He was a rookie QB and he played like one. He had his ups and downs. But you are sugar coating it with this.

So how are 2 games with sub par QB ratings (55 and 76) 'technically 1?'

I would suggest a more accurate way to look at his play is to assess how he did in TDs/Turnovers and go from there. So to start with he only had 2 starts in which he had MORE TD's than TURNOVERS. That's 2 in 6 games which means in 4 of 6 starts (not counting the Indy game of course), we were even or behind in the turnover battle.

In 3 of his 6 starts he was sacked 5 times. While this is more on the OL than the QB, some of the blame goes to him as there were times he held the ball too long and got sacked as a result. Sacks are drive killers so they are important things to keep track of.

He threw 2 TD's in 3 of his 6 starts. Though to keep that in context, in two of those games he had over 40 passing plays. While that is not the TD rate we'd like, he also didn't throw more than 1 INT in those games either.

One other context to point out is that he finished the season with a QBR of 30.1. This shows the effect of some of his stats in garbage time as this is significantly below the average level and what you'd expect from a QB with an 83 QB rating. He had only 2 games with above average QBR's (62 and 81) and the rest were well below average. His 30 QBR would have put him at 30th in the league ahead of Blake Bortles (22) but behind Geno Smith (35), Josh McCown (36), Austin Davis (38), Derek Carr (38), Kyle Orton (42), Brain Hoyer (43), Alex Smith (49), and Teddy Bridgewater (50).

Point of the above is to give some context to Mett's stats last year. We have seen rookies do worse and turn into excellent QB's and QB's do better and flame out. You can't know off of 6 games whether he will be the next Tony Romo or Stafford or another guy who couldn't quite get there and becomes a backup or worse.

The good thing for him is he will have some time to develop without getting killed behind a porous OL while he works on speeding up his eyes, decision making and release. Aaron Rodgers developed into one of the best QB's of our time sitting behind Favre.

As for the Titans fans, you shouldn't be loving or hating either guy. Mariota was a star in college and the 2nd overall pick so they will give him every opportunity to start and see what he can do but that's no guarantee he won't get hurt or that he will be an awesome QB. The reason to feel good about these 2 guys is that between the 2 of them, we should have at least 1 Franchise QB. Now we just have to find out which one that is!

nice write @Gut - only thing I don't agree with is saying that "no one is saying" Mett was or is terrible.

Now, no one will own up to it, but clearly by some posts read on this forum, we do have some members here who are under that impression, and are unable to look at his performance as a rookie, for one reason or another, without any bias of some form. :whack:

you do realize the absolute worst way to evaluate a rookie qb is turnovers and wins right......two best predictors for rookie success is touchdowns and yards, and mett did well enough in both. But good post overall

Mett has that many yards cuz he is s good qb. Its not a coincidence he led the preseason in passing then went on to put up 1400 yards in 6 games...

He has talent. My only big concern w him is injuries
