We'd be dumb to trade him away at this point unless we got a ridiculous offer like a 1st.

yup. i wouldnt trade him at all...

but what is a very likely outcome is mett watches mariota flounder for a couple years, gets his chance mariotas third year, mett shines, tells tennesse to sick a duck for trying to give his job away and costing him a few years of p.t. and signing elsewhere...something really tells me he ends up in houston. they wont be in position to draft a qb anytime soon, so a guy like mett is their best shot at finding their franchise qb

I think a very likely outcome is Mett watches the games from the bench for the next three years muttering to himself "Damn that guy is good".

I'm glad you don't coach because you seem to make stuff up on the fly. I never said wins was a good indication of qb success so not sure where you're pulling that from. TD to Turnover ratio is MORE important that straight yards or even TD's by themselves BECAUSE turnover differential is the only stat with a high corelation to winning the game. If your QB doesn't make mistakes and has a positive TD to turnover ratio, all other things being equal, you have a solid chance to win. Throw 2 TD's and give up 3 turnovers and you most likely lose the game.

And I put in QBR because it takes into account garbage time yards/completions/etc which is why in some games where he has a good QB rating, he has a poor QBR. So all things factored in, he was the 30th QB in the league. Unfortunately you thought he played so well you project him to become a top 8 QB based on the stats you suggested ANY QB CAN GET in another post. That is not likely considering other rookies outplayed him and I doubt they make it into the top 10 next year either.

And while you mistake a discussion as hatred, I point out facts (stats) and try to put them into context for a discussion while you keep distorting the facts (like Mett outperformed his college stats - which he did NOT in ANY stat) and when pointed out you try to throw it back at me and others. You keep damaging your credibility...

All things considered I think Mett was OK and about what I expected. Some real flashes but also a lot of inconsistency attributeable both to his surrounding cast, coaching, as well as the difficulty in his own development given that he has limited mobility, didn't make quick decisions and held the ball too long.

I think you wouldn't have seen a riot had we decided to pass on Mariota and they traded down for picks and players and decided to restock the roster and give one more year. But they chose a different route. Get over it. And despite this fear rhetoric that Mett will go somewhere and thrash us, I think this an unlikely scenario because that would mean BOTH Mariota AND Mett succeeded and we couldn't keep both. Considering the bust rate of 1st round QB's is 50% at best, them both succeeding is doubtful. If Mariota fails, Mett will get his chance long before his contract runs out. If Mariota succeeds, we may need Mett here and there due to injuries and maybe they trade him for a 1st rnd pick...probably to the NFC. I see little chance of a huge negative thing unless they both fail and we still have no franchise QB or they both succeed and we can worry about Mett 4 years from now trying to beat us in the SB!!! LOL

Good point! I tend to ignore posters who just hate or love for no reason so maybe I ignore some of the Mett 'hate.' I am more aware of the Mariota hate led by 520, but I think they are missing the boat.

If Mariota becomes ROY and leads us to the playoffs, are they gonna switch to another team? Frankly, as long as we find that we have a franchise QB so we can get back on track to working towards the playoffs and SB contention I'll be happy. Due to current circumstances, Mariota likely gets first crack this year. But either way, Mett or Mariota will be in their first full year starting and will take their lumps. Too much will be made of their stats most likely as the large debate over Mett's stats show.

While Mett had a good chunk of yards, a lot of them came in garbage time reflected in his QBR of 30. But just because his QBR is below Geno Smith, he was still a rookie and didn't have a ton of help so it doesn't mean he can't improve but similarly, his yards doesn't mean he's guaranteed to become a starting QB. QB's develop over time so really, we'll just have to wait and see and HOPE we can start winning some games and have improved our flaws that killed us last year (OL, run game, pass rush and tackling on defense).
