Colin McCarthy Retires

this made me literally lol

 

I'll repeat the sentiment. Great when on the field, but rarely there. Remember when we thought the LB corps was set for years. McCarthy, Brown, and Ayers. 2 of them gone and last remaining hasn't looked the same as his rookie year. So disappointing.

You retire when you get too many injuries to continue to work in your current occupational field. Not quite the same as a quitter, I wouldn't call Locker or McCarthy quitters for leaving the game with the injuries they've had. McCarthy already missed time getting his brains scrambled, I'm sure not the first time either.

Barry Sanders strait quit the NFL (for example), not McCarthy.

IIRC he did it right before TC though with multiple years left on his giga contract.

really put his team in a tight spot.

 

McCarthy wasn't actually good when he was healthy, the rare occasions that was, after his rookie year. Just another flash in the pan.. Another bright rookie who never recovered from that sophomore slump.

 

So Barry Sanders playing 10 years while avoiding serious injury and then retiring before injury diminished his skills/health he's a quitter.
