What does Mett even know? High chance Mariota has already surpassed an average college QB with only a few NFL games in the information department.

One thrived whereas the other did just enough.

 

The only advantage Mett has on Mariota is an off season of back up reps, preseason and 5-6 games under his belt.

I'd say an off season of 1st team reps and being "the guy" puts Mariota in the lead in the experience department anyway. But I still think Mettenburger will be a pro and share his thoughts and be a team player, all while doing his best to compete and show what he can do.

 

Anyone who thinks Mariota knows more about what it takes to be an NFL QB through a few weeks of OTAs than the guy who started 6 games is kidding themselves.

I think Mariota could pass Mett in that department by the end of TC. But comon'... It's June.

 

He said that sarcastically and even straight up said he was joking.

 

Sure he joking. Just like he said he was going to beat out any QB we drafted. It's like telling a short or fat joke, then saying "I was just kidding." You know to some extent they meant what they said.

 

Some people can take jokes, some cant.

If you havent learned anything about Metts personality by now, you wont. The guy is a cut up and likes to have fun.

 

Judging by his pre-draft comments...he's confident he'll beat out whomever they might draft...and seeing that he just had what he thought was HIS starting job, taken from him, I'm inclined to believe he was only half joking. Some people do that, regardless of whether they are clown or not.

He didn't seem to realize that Whiz giving him 6 games to start last season was NOT a vote of confidence, but a means to evaluate Zach. The fact that we drafted a QB at No.2 overall (not to mention his 0-6 record as a starter), should have told him, that he didn't pass that evaluation with flying colors.

 

So confidence and fighting for first string is something we rag on players for now? I believe he was 100 percent serious there and i have no problem with a player not giving up. You must be a big fan of "just give me the job or I wont try" mentality that Ayers ended up showing he had.

As for the rest, youre making assumptions. Even the worst football minds here knew why Mett was in after Locker showing he cant stay healthy. Im pretty sure Mett realizes that too.

This doesnt have to be a Mett vs Mariota mentality. Mett showed promise last year, thats it. You cannot argue against this and be taken seriously. The tape didnt lie. That doesnt mean he was a lock to succeed.

All of this needless Mett bashing comes from people getting irritated at 520.

 

Confidence is not something you blurt out to the media...especially when the question as to whether he would be a starter is now out of his hands. He got a shot to prove his worth or lack thereof, last year. Maybe you didn't notice that the staff saw things much differently.

They like Mariota enough that they aren't gonna waste their time with a "competition"...they made their evaluation of both and decided Mariota was by far the best option. There is a reason they decided to draft Mariota in the 1st Rd and Mett in the 6th.

They know, unlike some fans such as yourself, that Mett is basically backup material, if that. the 6th Rd is typically where you draft backups
