A couple more tips to avoid getting raped by companies:

Threaten your Internet provider with leaving, annually. My bill went from 60 a month to 35 for Internet. It lasts for 12 months, so put it on your calendar to do it then. The 30 minutes of BS is worth the 300 dollars you may save

My monthly entertainment expenses : 5 bucks for XBL, 35 for Internet, 8 for Netflix. Under 50 bucks per month.

ALSO:Shop around for home/auto insurance every year, or at least every few years. Every company will raise their rates on you, and there is usually a company who will give you a better rate just to get your business. Being faithful to an insurance company only pays them.. Not you. Typically.

A little bit of hassle pays off. I was paying a load of money for home and auto.. Switched to Erie and saved hundreds per year, now switched to Allied, saving hundreds from that. Staying with allied until I find a better deal.
Insurance companies are only there to F you. So F them first. It doesn't matter if you have no claims, they're out there to F you in the A.

TLDR: pay attention with your finances, don't be a [IMG] and Piss all your money away on unnecessary things.

I have a Chromecast and a Roku. For what you are planning to use it for, I'd suggest Roku. Chromecast still has some features in beta (which is weird for how long it has been out), and it can be a little finicky.

Roku is more expensive, but it gives you more options and is easier to use.

I'm in the middle of cutting the cord. We'll see how Comcast responds since they are trying to keep us by dropping our total bill for Home Alarm, Internet and Cable TV to 89.99. The original deal was up might like nick said above I call and talk to the cancellation department (that's the key, regular customer support doesn't help).

Without cable TV, I'd still have to pay for NFL Game Pass for let's say 200 bucks, a proxy service to watch it with 5 dollars a month, Hulu/Netflix 9 bucks a month, and MLB.TV for 150 a year.

I'm really not saving much money if they give me the same deal I had for the last year, but if they jump up the price after the 12 month promo, I jump ship also. The key is though to talk to the cancellation department and not to waste time banging your head against the wall by talking to call center receptionists.

Yep. The key is being firm, and saying the words "I'm going to cancel"

I tried to tell my mom do it, she was too polite and tiptoed around it... Exact same company wouldn't cut her a deal.

Great advice from everyone! Not only are we cutting cable but also merging our phone plans at Verizon, and auto insurance. I hope this fat cutting helps.

    it does. 100 percent.
Try talking to an independent agent who can write through tons of companies, and find the cheapest.. or you can do the legwork yourself and call around and get all kinds of quotes.

I just cut my phone bill by 97% by going with two cans and a string.
Does anyone know where I can get a better deal on two cans with a string?

I think the local food pantry has a shoestring and a couple spoiled cans of corn out in their receptacles. I can cut your phone bill by 100 percent. And get you some free corn. So it's over 100 percent
