He'll get some playing time regardless. We have had a bad string of luck with injuries the past few years.

Yes it would, because we HAVE a decent Center. Maybe if we had a Pro Bowl C who could make up for a lot of the times Levitre gets beat to the inside this wouldn't be a thread.

But you always wanna evaluate your worst players/positions and turn them into strengths. Meanwhile, Levitre and Griffin represent a lot of whats wrong with the team. They are drastically overpaid and sub-par players and as long as you overpay sub-standard play, the GM and Coach send the wrong message to the team!

No it's not. Does our starting C have an $8+mil cap hit this year? No. Is he paid like a Pro Bowler? No. Is our starting OC as bad as Levitre? No.

On the flip side, can our starting C get better? Yes. Can he be easily replaced with another guy without the GM looking bad? Yes.

But one effective but bad strategy for our GM has been to make us forget about Levitre by creating a BIGGER problem on the OL at RT!!!

The starting LG is better than the starting C and starting RT, not complicated. Cutting him now yields you little cap advantage over cutting him in early 2016, also not complicated.

Teams get stuck with contracts a bunch.
I don't feel like the Titans have a quality personnel/scout for existing players. More often than not I feel like any fan would do a better job than them with evaluating free agents.
Baltimore wanted nothing to do with Oher and that should have been telling right there. Stingily did better than him last TC and they could have cut him, tried to make a move for a RT...reacted somehow, but they didn't and started him anyway.
Arguably the worst LT last year was signed this year to replace him-yeah!
I'm hopeful the rookies or Stingily start. Maybe Bell was embarrassed and can play better. I'm trying to stay positive with this.
Terren was the only one I liked amidst a bad time for the OL and 3 or 4 plugin players that seemed worse than the next. He was massive and played like a bully. Granted you want a T to move his feet and he is not ideal, but when everyone runs past your RT like he's a turnstyle, it made me like the brute.
I would love to see Terren play NT.
I appreciated Levitre's honesty about saying he stunk and needed to improve week 5 or so last year. He did play better. I don't think it was good enough, but he did improve.
I think there's an extremely significant drop in the quality of the OL coach. Going from Munchak and Matthews to Tampa Bay's assistant wasn't the best move for this franchise. Granted Munchak probably would struggle to coexist after being a HC and...I get that, but they should have paid a handsome amount for another name coach.
The Titans are fortunate to have a nice relationship with former players and coaches before Whisenhunt always welcomed them back for visits or to work out with the guys. In the least, they could invite an all-star cast to stop by and help out this summer.
Lewan got better last summer. He bounced around and you could definitely tell he was grasping things and improving. Otherwise, I don't know that a single player improved on the OL. That's coaching. With a new scheme it should have been oh so obvious.

The team is not 'stuck' with the contract, we are stuck with a GM who wants to protect his rep. If he sign Levitre to a huge contract and then cuts him a year or two later and take a big cap hit, he has to answer for that. Notice Baltimore CUT Oher and he was a FIRST round pick (I think) and yet they are doing what's BEST for the TEAM!!! Webster doesn't understand that THAT is how you BECOME a GREAT GM!!!

I don't disagree with your sentiment. The Titans are currently eating some of Oher's salary while he plays in Carolina. Levitre makes 8.6 mil. If they cut him, they eat 6.3 mil. He was never the top G and doesn't deserve to have the biggest cap hit of all G but a few years ago I was glad they went out and spent some serious coin on a good linemen. If he was cut last year, they'd pay him 8.6 mil and eat 8.4. 200k is close to a wash. He could get cut this year and they save that 2.3 mil. I doubt it though. I'm not sure Meredith or Bell are better. I don't know about the UDFA G. Totally exposed for having no depth and deciding to replace a former HOF as line coach and another former HOF as head coach..these moves "killed" them on the OL. Their Tackles getting old real quick was surprising, I'd throw him a bone with them. Lewan, I love, but you take a T that high he better be good. There's no way I'm saying Webster did a good job here. Not addressing it in free agency, was a poor choice. Now in June though-idk that there's a better G available and I'm not sure that Levitre isn't better than the depth. I don't want him starting, but Bell was the worst LT in football and Meredith wasn't even on a team when the Titans signed him. It is Webster's job to find another option (or two!) here, but as it looks today he's better than their depth. It is pathetic but not nearly as pathetic as signing a Tampa Bay assistant to coach the line, watching last year, and not going out and getting a new OL coach.

A few quick points. Since it is past June 1, we would save $4.4mil ($6.5base salary - $2.1mil pro-rated) this year. Bell and Meridith are OT's so they wouldn't replace Levitre. On the team, choices are probably Matias, Poutasi or perhaps one of our top 2 OC's. Ideal choices? No. I would sign Mathis for the $6.5mil he wants as this is the same money we'll be paying Levitre to be below avg when we can have an above avg OG for the same price? This gives us a really strong left side to run behind and protect Mariota's blind side and give us a couple of years to develop some younger players and let players like Poutasi focus on RT for now.

No brainer....execpt for Webster. But lots of obvious things Webster should be doing or should have done seem to elude him.

It is not that they cut levitre and suddenly have 6.5 mil for Mathis. This was explained earlier.
Poutasi, Stingily, and Jones played RT during this last few days of minicamp while Bell and Meredith backed up levitre. Merideth has also played C and LT this spring.
