Squash it all! Look into the G-Box Q you can get through Amazon. Never miss another football game. Get all the HBO, Cinemax, and Star channels and so much more for $100. One time fee. You need the internet, and then download the software for free. It streams from Europe. My coworker just got it and has 200 plus channels including NFL network, Direct TV feeds, and other sports affiliates. Use your high definition rabbit ear antennae for local channels and forget about these money sucking cable monsters. Free yourself----one is already on the way for me. Look into OOMA for your landline phone- pay only tax fees to your locality for use and you have a landline phone for 4 bucks a month. I am done getting fleeced.

Yup.. we ditched cable in LR because it's just too damn high.

Got the antenna and mainly use xbox live to watch netflix, hockey, youtube..

If there is a game on that I cant get on the TV, I'll find some other place to go watch it. Just cant justify paying insane cable prices every month for a service that I rarely use outside of sports.

Maybe one day cable companies will get with the times and start coming up with some none bank breaking solutions (i.e. sports channels a la carte)

21 channels on an antenna is pretty awesome! Wish I got more than I do.. I pick up NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, and sometimes UPN on a good day. Love me some judge shows :D

What kind of antenna do you have? Anything fancy?

I wasn't talking about googling. my post was more about people running cables through their walls and putting antennas on roofs. Thats a lot for a couple channels.

I just got basic cable this year for the first time since I moved out the parents house. 5 something years. Its not as bad as you guys make it out to be. We pay like 40 a month, which Comedy Central, Cartoon network/Adult Swim make it worth that 40 for me.

Kids get their cartoons, wife gets her shows.

    We stream HBO and Netflix.

I guess if all you watch on tv besides streaming is local channels its worth it, but hell you could possibly stream those for a more reliable and quality picture without having to play with antennas and wires or google codes lol

I listen to the Kim Komando show when cutting grass on Saturdays, and she has a tool on her website for this as well (she is trying to sell HD antennas also). I tried it out yesterday.....seven channels with 60% signal LOL. ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, and a couple of garbage channels (not to imply that the network channels are not "garbage" as well).

I think I will stick with Direct TV for now....NFL Sunday Ticket countdown....8 weeks.

This works well if you have no data caps on internet plans. My guess, however, is that at some point there will be limits on data use though. In rural areas (where I live) the vast majority of internet options come with data caps already. May take awhile in urban areas, but I do not see unlimited data for all lasting forever here.....

    Greedy sobs.. I agree

I remember when they first put in those data caps and people were freaking out.. ISPs response was basically "the caps are so high no one would ever notice" ... basically they were saying "..just the tip"

They will eventually try to corner the market and make their clients pay through the nose like wireless companies are already doing.

Most people have DVRs and more expensive packages. Even the cheap cable is about 500 bucks per year, so 500-1500 dollar savings from cutting the cord. I just didn't watch enough TV to justify it. If you do, you get your money's worth. Besides, in California, 50 bucks a month is next to nothing, in my city, it's about 10 percent of a mortgage payment for some people.

I'd just rather pocket that extra 500 per year. That buys food for at least a few months.
