I would like to cut cable too, but I live in a newly developed area where not much is offered in the first place. I can only get DSL internet from AT&T. U-Verse is not offered in my neighborhood, but it is on the main road not even a mile away (don't make much since). AT&T and Comcast didn't offer cable so I had to go with DirectTV. Believe it or not, but some of the HD channels on DirecTV are better than Comcast. I had out of town friends come in and one of them said if it was in 3D....lol. Give most of the credit to the Samsung TV.

Internet speeds suck, can't even play video games online. I can barely stream Netflix.

I am glad I got away with Comcast. They give you a good deal when you first sign up then it goes up every year after that. I was paying nearly $250 per month for the triple play (the wife needed a land line for work purposes).

This is the main thing we are trying to get away from. My wife's work now uses VOIP phones so house phone is out with the cable as well.

We have VoiP phones here too. The technology isn't perfected yet, but in 10 years, I don't know why anyone would ever use a landline. Problem is that you're stranded without phones if your Internet goes down, and for the first year, we were constantly getting a bad connection. It's been much better recently though, and costs a ton less.

Wonder how much money could be made when this is true and they need to salvage all of the copper in the phone lines running all over the U.S.

    Where are you located?

I'm going to try to put my antenna up the attic. HOA rules don't allow anything on the roof (though we have some Dishes around us on the roof).

Shingles may interfere. An antenna with a booster might overcome that.

I want to do the exact same thing.
