I just really don't see the big deal with this offset language. You obviously thought enough of the guy to draft him 2nd overall so show a little faith. It's not like QBs are getting Sam Bradford money these days anyway. At this point just get the damn deal done. Jesus. Pathetic.

Obviously Mariota isn't as great as a teammate as many of you believe he is. If he truly cared about what's best for the team he wouldn't care about all this nonsense. He would just want to be out there with his teammates. If he's not out there by day 1 in training camp then I've lost a lot of confidence and respect in him.

FO sees this as an opportunity to never have to compromise on offsets. If Mariota can agree to offsets, then every first rounder from now on will be told "Look, Mariota didn't even get the contract he wanted, so you definitely won't."

I might be in the minority on this one, but I agree with Underwood. This negotiation isn't about our lack of belief in Mariota. Rather, it's about all the future first rounders we might miss on.

If you're going to make a guy the face of your franchise you should probably start by showing that you have faith in him. This is not doing that whatsoever.

But at the same time. Mariota really doesn't deserve to double dip if he's cut.

Both sides are wrong. I'd like to see Mariota make a statement on the matter saying he doesn't care about the double dipping and just wants to start winning... but I guess that's too much to ask too.

I don't see this relationship ending well.

I think the NFL should step in and do away with offset language all together. A guaranteed contract should only be guaranteed if you're still employed by the team!

It's not about not being confident in the ability of a high pick. How many top picks should have been cut in a few years because the sucked in the NFL? It's a roll of the dice with EVERY player in the draft. If it doesn't work out, a team shouldn't be forced to keep the player just because they are forced into paying them and that's what happens a lot of the time. Players that suck remain on the team because it doesn't make sense to cut them and still have to pay them and pay someone to replace them.

I understand why Underwood is doing it. Makes good business sense. And if you look at the history of this franchise with it's picks, you can understand why they are doing it. With that said, why does a player and his agent think they need to double dip? It's just greed.

I agree with the Titans here if for no other reason with their history with players and draft picks. They need to play it wise and make a good deal. And Mariota and his agent needs to move towards the Titans to come to an agreement. If I'm not mistaken. Winston gave up that right.

Yeah Mett's problem was just that he couldn't win a single game.. Honestly if he could have shown some sort of heroics and squeaked out two wins, with some good play on his part, the job would have been his. Good QBs take advantage of situations like that. He didn't.

"But no one could do it behind our O-line."

Even the Hurt Locker could win one in six games, with nearly the same line.
