The what? Dude, people have to stop trying to hard to make fun of team names of forcing a play on words that doesn't make a lick of sense.

I'm pretty sure the team he is traded to would take over his contract just as it was written - but I think also sometimes in trades teams also negotiate who will pay how much. Trades like that don't happen too often in the NFL like they do in MLB.

Am I the only one who thinks this is perfectly reasonable?

This is exactly what I said the reason the Titans won't budge was when this whole thing started.

Both parties know Mariota isn't going to be cut. For his agent, this is about getting a war trophy that is ultimately meaningless. For the Titans, this is about avoiding a precedent where our picks don't get offset language.

For Mariota, this is all about nothing. He will tell his agent to cave before he misses TC. He won't miss any days.

And even if the Titans do cave, which IDGAF if they do or not, you don't exactly say that in the middle of negotiations.

I will only care if he ends up missing a day.

Both sides will have shown their asses at that point.

Yes. It's silly. The Titans have been burned on 2 high first round QBs this decade already... They have every right to protect their butts in case it goes south.. and playing the percentages of 1st round QBs.. there's a better chance than not of it not going so well.

NFL should have fully guaranteed contracts, period.. like the NHL does. If the franchise agrees to pay you 50 million, they should have to pay for it. NFL teams in their current state, are hardly held accountable for their crappy contracts.
Since this is the case, the team should fight for their protection against a potential bust QB.

Only an idiot would join the NFL, if other major pro sports are an option. Good golfers, boxers, baseball players make way more... and in some cases, are way less beat up after their career (not boxers, obviously.)

Floyd Mayweather made 179 million from the Pacquiao fight (Less than 1 hour of work). Peyton Manning is WORTH 115 million TOTAL.

Also, A Rod has nearly 3x the net worth of Manning.

    Tom Brady: 120 mil
    Manning: 115 mil
    Tiger Woods: 500 mil
    Arnold Palmer: 675 mil
Shaq and David Beckham: 350 mil.

So, just to be clear.. NFLPA are a bunch of suckers, and the players are massively underpaid, when one of the premier players is worth 1/3 of baseball's best.

    1. You draft an overall #2 to be a franchise player.
    2. You give that player 4 years to develop or never should have picked him.

If you cut him is simply part of the process and cost of doing business. We've already assumed the risk to the franchise of him not panning out.

This is entirely about "profit margin" and a means to recoup it. It is the Titans being short sighted "cheap" regarding their financial affairs. It is bad PR if Mariota does not show up.

And in regards to precedent, I sure as hell hope we aren't picking QB again in the top five. It's not like the offset issue affects more than one player we'd pick every 5-10 years.

Its not about Mariota its about the precedent. The Jaguars didn't have offset language for Bortles last year, and now Fowler doesn't have offset language. Yall need to stop worrying, the media is just looking for a story in the slow offseason. non-issue.

Literally 30 other teams have offset language for their first pick, so its not that Titans being unreasonable here. Just relax.

Just pay him and get it over with, Mariota is going to make the titans a lot of money from just merchandise alone.

The standoff may be BS - but it sure comes at a time when it makes them look like they put petty bottom line issues before winning.
If they really do want to sell Mariota as the team savior and convince fans that are one straw from giving up entirely they might want to approach things differently.
