We've forced offset contracts on all 4 of our 1st rounders since the new CBA was done, why would we stop that practice now? I dont think we will, Mariota needs to fall in line and realize this is silly stuff, we are not giving up on Mariota for a good 3-4 years, he has nothing to be worried about.

Mariota could end up here longer than anyone in the building, just sign the rookie contract and cash in later...

In the short term, yes.. certainly. VY did the same thing. The concern is the future. VY made a big jump in revenue, but we're still feeling the effects of that missed pick, nearly 10 years later. It cost us MUCH more than they made off the quick buck bandwagoners that followed him and bought some jerseys... and Mariota is not NEAR the star status that VY was in 2006.

Only ONE first rounder does not have offset language in their rookie deal. This one is on Mariota and his agent not the Titans FO.

Imagine what would happen if you asked your boss to keep paying you even after you take another job elsewhere.

what percentage of Titans fans even know or care about stuff like this? Seems like the vast majority come to game day only, and care nothing about the behind-the-scenes stuff. I don't think this'll have any impact on anything. When they bent over backwards for the "proven" star player in CJ, they got bent over forwards. IMO, they're just above rock bottom, anyway.

I do totally get what youre saying.. but in the Titans' shoes, I'd be very careful with the money dropped on a 1st round QB, especially after our misfortunes in that category. That's every negotiation, QB wants top dollar, Franchise wants low-dollar. Franchise holds the cards, since Mariota hasn't proven anything yet other than being a high pick.

Realistically Mariota can miss up to 3-4 days without slowing things down, after that our guys aren't refreshing anymore and are transitioning into in-season mode.

You act as if Mariota would be getting big money from a new team if Tennessee cuts him after
It happens all the time with head coaches AND GMs who get fired from their job and then take a lesser job with another team. Why should it be any different for players? Do you think Underwood would decline his remaining money from the Titans on his contract should he get fired and have to take a lesser-paying job with another team?

Would Whisenhunt say "no thanks" to the remainder of his contract if he gets fired this season and takes a QB coach job for much less money on another team? How can anyone blame a player for wanting exactly what those he's negotiating with get in their contracts?

30 other teams and first round picks have offset language (including the QB picked before him). Stop, you're being a loser.

Stop being naive. You know Chip Kelly would blow his load if Mariota was to come free. You being an Oregon homer I figured you'd know that.

Because this is supposedly your franchise QB who you're already marketing as the face of your franchise, and not some offensive lineman that nobody cares about.

That's why. I hope Mariota calls the Titans' bluff and sits out the entire year. I don't think any young QB has a chance to be successful in the Titans' toxic Clown Show.

Just the fans that pay for stuff like PSLs etc.
I don't think agreeing to offsets allows TN to get burned by Mariota.
As others have said, it may be the precedence thing.
