Unless he has offset language, absolutely he'd still be paid. That's the point of contracts. Marc freshman is still getting paid by the Bears, even though he now is the OC on the Ravens.

 

I use to be like that when I was younger.

Now if I go somewhere and they discontinue an item I liked, I actually send a nice email to the company on how I loved it and a bit disappointed its gone.

I then in return get free stuff, so thats cool lol.

 

When did contract negotiation be removed from the "corporate ladder?" Some employees in similar jobs are higher up the ladder in terms of value and leverage than others.

That's what is happening in this case. A franchise QB picked second and being marketed by a team has more negotiating leverage than an offensive lineman picked at #11. What would worry me as a Titan fan and player is that management either doesn't recognize this basic premise of business, or they do and won't ever amount for crap if they treat all negotiations and players as the same.

Its a team game, even tho we really know QB is the main guy he needs to fall in line just like the rest of them did, its going to be rough if he inadvertently alienates himself over a few dollars..

Normally guys stay out of guys business in the NFL but if he chooses to miss more than a few days guys wont wait, it'll be the Mett show. I read you say you want him to sit out, thats really the worst he could do for himself, no rookie needs to put themselves on a pedestal like that.

 

Exactly. Mariota and his agent are free to be adamant about offset language as much as they want to be. It's a business and free country.

But comparing him to people in the front office makes no sense.

They are higher up in the organization, so of course the front office is gonna possibly have more benefits than is.

A sales district manager is gonna have better salary, health insurance and more PTO than the new kid they just hired to push to sell their product for commission. Even though from the outside looking in, he's the face you see everyday, the one actually in the store trying to sell this product for his boss.

But the new kid can choose to go on strike and command he gets the same benefits if he wants too.

 

Obviously Mariota picked at #2 has more leverage than Lewan picked at #11. Not only based on where they were selected, but also, the position they play and pedigree coming out of college. That deserves a high-five for pointing out..someone tag this guy with one.

Mariota was drafted into a league that is a business and by a team that is a business. Our "corporate ladder", no matter how hypocritical it may be, has not given any of our high draft picks this luxury of double dipping (business decision). It's also a business decision to try and stick to their guns on this for future contract negotiations. Accept it.

Marcus will sign and be a Titan whether you enjoy it or not.
