Again, he started 8 games in one season, a losing season, BTW. He lost six games that season.

The other seasons where he was the #2 he started 1 game each year, going 1-1.

Just looking at the game logs in his NFL.com profile it looks like that happened once in 2003. He threw a TD in a 7-point win against Atlanta. Other than that it looks like mop up time or playing a lot in losses.

He threw 81 passes in 2005 in three losses, none of them starts.

 

I hope mett is unstoppable in the preseason. 2 300 yard game would be nice. I hope they dont play cbj at all, just let mm and mett play the whole game. Best case i think we get a 3rd for him, but realistically I'm thinking a 5th.

Exactly!!! So why waste so much effort on a player that will likely never play?

If you could trade the backup (who likely doesn't play) for a 2nd/3rd round pick (who could be a defensive starter/OL/ect) then why not? They WILL help on every play. Mett most likely will only help on just a handful of plays. But you people are so worried about the dooms day scenario (MM going down) that you OVER value his position.

I understand depth is important. I won't argue that, but if you can turn a depth player on your team into a draft pick that may be a starter, then you should do that.

Again, teams rarely make the playoffs because they had 2 good QBs splitting time. They make it because they had 1 QB they can count on.

 

I still don't get all the Mett love anyway. I mean he is an entertaining and likeable guy, but he didn't do anything worthy of this kind of valuation.

This guy didn't win us a single game last year ... what makes you so sure that if MM goes down, Mett is going to come in and suddenly start winning games?

 

I know what the excuse for Mett is already ... "oh but he was on such a terrible team, its not his fault we went 0-6. Its the teams fault"

So you are telling me that on a better team, Mett would've won more games? No sh*t Sherlock. CBJ would win more games if he was on a better team too. Lets stop acting like Mett is anything more than an average backup QB.
