Trading Mettenberger

Don't see "what ifs" so much as simply "ifs" or merely conjecture on his worth.

 

I don't know @RTH I think in jayraystays world mariotas a lock for the hof and an illustrious post football underwear modeling career and every other qb is garbage

The decision to trade Mett was made when we drafted Mariota. How hard is that? We are not going to hang onto Mett long enough to see if Mariota pans out either. What if Mariota only hit on 54% of his passes and had a sub 76 QB rating this year? Are you going to dump him for Mett? Well that was what Andrew Luck did his rookie year.
The bottom line is we decided to move on from Mett when we used our #2 pick on Mariota. The decision has been made. Just hope Mett keeps lighting it up in the pre-season and stays healthy.

 

Maybe we could trade him to Arizona for CJ.25k...

 

Look I'm all for trading Mett, but not now, no way. Let's face it you are only as good as your backups, and if Mariota should happen to miss any time, god forbid, then we must have a competent backup at QB. That being said, he must be traded after this season before his contract expires and he becomes a free agent. I'm unsure if he signed a 4 or 5 year contract, either way he will have to be moved at some time over the next couple years.

 

I just think its funny that so many people act like it is a foregone conclusion that Mett will win us games if he has to sub for Mariota. What has Mett ever done to make people think that?

Was it his constant 3 and outs last year? His dominating performance against scrub backups in a preseason game? I really just don't get it.

Look, I like Mett but he has proved NOTHING. Why do people act like he has?

 

Thats my stance on Mett too.

Here's the good in Mett
1.) Big time arm
2.) Throws a catchable ball
3.) Good pocket awareness
4.) Can read coverages

Now the not so good
1.) Telegraphs throws
2.) Long wind-up
3.) Puts ball in risky places
4.) Slow/stiff
5.) zero wins

How all that translates to trading him away fro anything is beyond me.

Now with all that said he's got more than enough to work with, you can be slow and winless and still become somebody. But the pairing of a long wind-up and telegraphing passes spells disaster. Then pair that with a bad offensive line and no mobility, another disaster...
