I highly doubt Eli Manning has ever come out and said "I want to be the highest paid player ever". This same report comes out about every QB ready for a new deal.

He will get paid right up there with the top QB money. Its just the way it works. Every contract has to one up the last one. 2 Super bowls pretty much seals the deal for Eli. (Even though he is an average QB)

As a New Yorker, I think I have a little better insight into this. Eli is a great guy, been a great leader and been the QB when the team won 2 SB's. But he's not the best player in the league, not the best QB in the league and not even the best player on his own team.

There are only 2 reasons he's asking for this. First, he has 2 rings and second, he's a Manning and they hold a lot of POWER in the league (like getting himself traded to NY during the draft).

I've always liked Eli because he has the perfect demeanor for NY and really represents a QB who is good enough to help you win a SB. In NY we debate all the time whether Eli is a top 10 QB.

His career QB rating is 82...which is not good and not even mediocre really. He's coming off a 92 QB rating from last season in which no one could stop ODB. But despite the high numbers he put up in comp %, TD's, YPA, total yards and QB rating....they won 6 games. This brings me to the main point. Eli, despite very good numbers in a year, can't carry this team like an Aaron Rodgers can. He is not on the level of Rodgers, Brady, Brees, PManning and he never will be. Which is fine because you don't need to be that, but they are paid to be elite and carry there teams.

Do you know how often the Giants have been in the playoffs under the great Eli? 2011 (won SB), 2008 (lost in one game to the Eagles...Eli was terrible), 2007 (won SB). So in the last 8 years, they've only been to the playoffs 3 years. And in each SB run, the team had to carry him in at least one game.

This is all to say he's a good QB who CAN showup big in big games. But he needs a TEAM to really get the job done. And when the Giants haven't had a great D, they havent gotten it done....and mostly havent even made the playoffs.

Sure I could point to the fact that in 2013 he had a QB rating in the SIXTIES he was so bad and the year before that he was in the 80's. I could also point out that other NFL players think he's so great he wasn't even voted into the top 100 players in the NFL. I could also point out that in his first SB win, he was carried that year by the team as his QB rating was that of a backup QB (low 70's).

Frankly, it sickens me that Eli is asking for this and trying to hold a great franchise (that treats him like a son) hostage for some extra money when NO ONE thinks he's the best player in the game and certainly not the best QB...not by a LONG stretch.

Eli has been OVERPAID for what he's done in his career. And playing in NY gets him a ton of money in commercials in arguably the largest market. He's been MORE than compensated for his play and for his 2 rings. He's 34 and I'd be ok paying him as a second tier elite QB. I think the Giants will cave but I wouldnt.

If Eli wants to be overpaid, playout your contract and see what happens. I think chances of him repeating last year are less than 50/50 as their OL is shaky and Cruz and ODB are kind of injury prone. If they still can't come to terms in 2016, I franchise him then trade him and go get me a new QB or trade for someone I can develop. I would not be held hostage by my own QB who has been given just about everything he could ever want. Overpaying him would really hurt a rebuilding franchise that is behind the Cowboys and Eagles.

I think Mettenberger enjoyed throwing the ball to ODB in college...

If you guys are seriously arguing that Eli Manning ISN'T garbage, you're worse than I ever thought.

He's never been great. Hardly even been good.

Fluking your way to a couple important wins doesn't make you good.

Eli Manning is a middle of the pack QB, IMO that should worth about $15M/yr (which is absurd but it is what it is)

Not really. His agent did fax over an offer which would make him the highest paid PLAYER in the league and are using his current cap hit and franchising him as the rationale. If you gets franchised next year, he will be the highest paid player in the league for that year.

Eli is at least smart enough to come out and say all the right things. But we'll see what he DOES!!! The Giants overpay guys they feel are 'true' Giants and Eli is one of those guys - as evidenced by his last contract. So if no deal is struck, it will most likely be that Eli won't take anything less and he holds the Giants hostage.

This will be interesting to follow. I think he's worth $15mil/yr but will get $17-19mil/yr if the Giants overpay him.

Garbage QB or not.. i'd be happy with any QB who can fluke a couple of superbowl wins.

Serious question, do you measure QB's in terms of individual statistics or in terms of win/losses or how well they do in playoffs?

It's a tough argument for both sides I could see either way as Manning being an elite QB, or him being middle of the pack depending on how you measure it...

Yall this is how negotiations work. Wilson was supposed to "be paid higher then Rodgers" too. Plus the cap has gone up over the years, I don't think its bad if he accepts a deal around 20 mil a year.

Eli is an above average QB... Better than Dalton/Kaep anyways. Maybe on par with Flacco? Probably just near top 10.

Titans fans saying they shouldn't pay Eli is ridiculous, we've been in QB purgatory for a decade. Theres no way Eli leaves NY, hes getting paid. Unless the giants want to risk 10+ years of wasting away their best talent (OBJ) like the Texans/Jags/Titans/Raiders/Bucs/Browns etc.
