i didn't like how the announcers were slobbing on Mariota's knob all night even after he was out.. they were talking like he was the 2nd coming, dude had a decent night but **** sakes

attention on the titans is nice and all but the hype level beyond 9000 is uncalled for right now, everyone needs to tone this **** down

True...I am not on cloud 9, but it was a great performance no doubt man. As for Mariota, it's not like he is Aaron Rodgers or something, but he doesn't look like a rookie out there. He is stepping up in the pocket, commanding the team and seeing formations well. I am impressed overall. I would like to see some TD's (DMC A hole) and his deep ball a bit more, but we can't complain at all by his play thus far. The Defense actually stopped the run. That in itself is amazing lol.

I Agree. He's not doing a bad job, but he isn't making plays like the team needs, if it ever hopes to get to the playoffs. I haven't seen anything from Mariotta that says that he's the hands down starter over Mettenberger. I think this is just trying to depart from anything from last year, but we all need to pump the breaks a little before we crown him the 2nd coming!!!

I agree it's too early to crown him anything. But in terms of his throw, he had 1 slightly underthrown ball last night that could have been picked. He was right on with his other 7 throws (2 drops...McCluster in the EZ and Wright on 3rd and long). If the TE blocks the OLB on his read option run, he runs for a significant chunk of yards.

He has been extremely impressive as a rookie...especially one coming from a spread offense. He's looked good in the pocket, moved around as needed, made 2 checks with 6 seconds on the playclock and took no penalties, and did exactly what he's supposed to do. I don't know how you watch that performance and don't come away impressed compared to what most of the world expected...not being able to read defenses, not taking good drops, fleeing the huddle if his first read wasn't open, blah blah blah!!!

The only real mistakes I've seen him make are not stepping up in the pocket in game 1 and double clutching that throw that could have been picked in this game. Other than that, he's been darn good and a light year ahead of where I expected. Take a look at the first few posessions Winston had in his first game and see what I mean. Winston came out looking like a deer in the headlights and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn...and he came from that style of offense. Mariota has had a heck of a lot more to learn and he appears to be getting it down well.

But with all that said, that is 2 pre-season games against vanilla coverages and no game planning (except GW did blitz the heck out of him last game). The bigger test will be his growing pains when teams are game planning for our offense and everything is for real. But for that, we'll have to wait and see....and hope!

Nobody said Mett sucks. Just because someone offers some critique of his play (like we do for every player) isn't insinuating that he sucks either.

Mett had another solid game yesterday. That TD pass he threw was great. And he had some other good passes as well ... however, that does not mean he is perfect (like you seem to think). His game is not without flaws, and he is not immune to criticism.

Mett shows some good NFL QB traits and qualities, but he also has areas he needs to work on (not a bad thing for a 2nd year QB). But you take every criticism of Mett and compliment of Mariota like it is a slight against Mett, when in fact it is just an observation.

Everyone on this board is pretty much in agreement that Mett has a lot of potential, and might be able to make a quality NFL QB. Most people on this board have a very fair assessment of Mett and Mariota. You are the only one that seems to think that Mett is already an elite NFL QB. You are incapable of giving an objective review on both QBs, and take into consideration their respective situations.

Here is my rational assessment of each QB.

    Mariota
Looking at Mariota objectively, he has looked solid throughout the offseason and through the 1st 2 preseason games. Almost every pass he has thrown in preseason has been very accurate. He has shown that he has a good understanding of the offense, and has been able to move the team down the field.

He also has made a few errors. A dropped int yesterday was a very bad decision on his part. The int the 1st week was questionable (still think sankey deserves about 1/2 of the blame). He has taken a few sacks.

Now, looking at Mariota with the understanding that he is a rookie and has been going against starters since week 1, I would change his performance from solid to impressive. The fact that he seems to understand and command the offense like a veteran is very impressive for a rookie, esp in just week 2 of preseason. He is already ahead of the curve in this regard, and will only get better with more exp.

Mariota is already showing signs of being able to avoid pressure and work the pocket (dropped TD pass to DMC is an example). There is still room for improvement here, but considering the fact that EVERYONE said he was a project and wouldn't be able to do this for a couple years, it is impressive to seem him looking fairly comfortable in the pocket already.

For a rookie, when the game hasn't slowed down yet for him and he is learning a new offense (while having to process lots of information) and playing with new players, his accuracy is pretty damn impressive. He seems to be on the same page with his guys most of the time, and delivers a very nice ball almost every time.

That being said, he still makes some rookie mistakes. But as a rookie, those are to be expected. Overall, his ceiling is VERY high.

    Mett

When looking at Mett objectively, he has looked very good so far in the preseason. His TD pass yesterday was very impressive, he fit that ball in a very tight window. He understands the offense, and has been accurate for the most part.

However, he missed on 2 plays to Hunter that could've been TDs. He needs to take a little off his throws, and put those balls on the money. He threw an int on an under thrown pass last week.

Now, considering the fact that Mett already has 1 year in the system, has already developed chemistry with most of his WRs, the game should be slowing down for him at this point and he is going against second string Ds, I would say that his is what we should expect from him. Mett is throwing to guys like Hunter, DGB and Nicks against the second string DBs ... I would expect those 3 to dominate against backups.

Mett has looked good, but it is against inferior competition, so it really is harder to judge where he is at.

    overall

Even if Mett looks 'as good as' Mariota, then once you consider that he has more exp, and he is going against lesser competition (while still utilizing starting WRs), how can you not come away more impressed with the rookie?
